I skim the CU boards sometimes and have picked up that PCGS is having a lot of mixed reviews.  What's your take on their place and problems right now?  I was turned off by that whole First Strike deal by them.

That is a powerful bottom line way of assessing things, isn't that ... free market speaks loudly.

So! ANACS has been replaced by ICG in the top three! How interesting!

I think it's interesting that Laura Sperber was banned after she posted a rant about grading inconsistancies at the TPGs on her own website. (She didn't mention any of them by name.) How interesting!

Yeah, that Laura business is interesting ... I was thinking of contacting her and inviting her here for comments.

You're being ironic, aren't you? From CU. And she's back on ebay.

No, I had no idea!

Do you have a link to what got her banned?

First strike was a bunch of crap, thought up to make money, and it worked.

And the sad thing is that it's gonna most likely keep working even though anyone who knows anything about the production and distribution of modern coinage knows that FS holds about as much water as a spaghetti strainer.

First Strikes™ are shameful!  I thought it was totally immoral how they changed the meaning of an established term - those are not first strikes at all.  Then I learned it could be 6 months of production starting the year before, totalling half of all made!  I remember posting some name change suggestions there at the time:

First Somethings

First 6 Million Mass Produced™

First Bunches of Oats™

First Strike, Possibly™

First Strikes: Buy First, Ask Later™

I have to laugh when people praise NGC for dropping the FS's. But they now have 'Early Release' coins. Oh...great....that's much better. 'Gee, my coin was the one of the first ones tossed into the Fed Ex from the distribution center.' It's another way of saying the same stinkin' thing. I wish the mint/gov't/ftc would step in and put the kibash on both FS and ER. Such an obvious exageration of the truth (i.e. lie) should have never been allowed.
