Well i bought this V nickel today it's a 1912O and noticed something like a crack in between the E and the D in united

Here is a normal and a negative scan of the coin

First, it's probably a D, not an O. Nickels were never minted in New Orleans, but they were minted in Denver in beginning in 1912

Second, a die crack is within mint allowances and is not considered an error.

I grant you, they are sometimes interesting or nifty, but they aren't errors. Further, they usually (as in this case) do not affect the value of the coin.

I had always thought that die cracks were errors

Learn something new everyday

The nickel was mislabeled, had that happen twice so far

The New Orleans Mint was closed by 1912, so as pointed out above this coin was not minted there.

There are (very few) cases where a die crack or series of die cracks will impact the value of a coin, but I am sad to say this is not one of them.

Still a neat coin!
