I accumulate gold; I think you'd have a hard time calling my gold holdings a coherent collection at this point.

The liberty half eagles can be kind of fun. Through lower MS grades, the common dates about the same price as the quarter eagles.

What attracted you to this 1906-D?

I liked the way it looked original. Silver tones differently and at the time I was comparing and trying to educate myself in how gold tones and the difference in appearance.

The hit on the chin kindof puts a damper on things and my eye always goes back to that nick.

My way of saying impulse buy.::chuckle::......It just jumped out at me from the box.

I see a lot of these with darker areas like the ones in your picture on the neck and left field). I aked a guy at Heritage about that. He told me that it was caused by inconsistant mixing of the copper into the gold. Before that I had thought of copper spots as just freckle-like spots. That was the new thing I learned at the most recent TNA show.

Most of my liberty half eagle purchases have been impulse buys. I see a coin and the marked price, and I think to myself, "How could I turn that offer down?" I'm counting on a run up in gold to justify that kind of purchase, I'm afraid. The upside is that the half eagles trade a little higher than 1/4 the price of the double eagles.
