Well, yes, I had some question about the wreath style, too. The top leaves of the 2d reverse kind of point up while the top leaves of the 1st reverse form a more perfectly circular wreath. That's why I'd want to learn more about attribution before I went shopping.

Do you know if there is a variety of the 2d reverse with stems?

Well, this is not a matter of shopping. This worn but wonderful piece is all mine. Looking at the coin facts page at the PCGS website, I would say this is reverse of 1802. Of course, I do wish that it was a reverse of 1800. How nice that would be.

I just saw your link. Sure enough! The Cohen-2 (and the Cohen-1) does have a 2d reverse with stems. I've learned something today.

Is there a source on-line where I could attribute this? Maybe I should ask the good people at the PCGS forum.

The PCGS price guide says $950 in Good but this is a far cry a simple "Good."

On something as scarce as this one, I'd compare it to pics on the Heritage auction archives until I found one that I thought matched. I'd definitely post it at CU for authentication help. You would probably get an answer right quick.

Oh, I forgot to mention . . . Conder101 is over on NGC these days. You remember he got bammed from CU. Even though NGC is a lot slower, they have some top-notch copper people there.

He signed up here.  Would love to have him post sometimes.  He helped me a lot in the past with attributing colonial variety and so forth.

Here is Conder's Intro here:

I have been told over at CU that there are only two varieties for 1802 and this one has the reverse of 1802.

Yeah, I saw that. I'm glad you got your answer. I think the Red Book picture is missleading. It isn't even a picture of an 1802.
