Dear friend,

I find it interesting that there was such a high percentage of silver in a coin produced during the war. One would think that the silver would go for other war needs.

The Govt had their reasons for choosing such a mixture, they needed the nickel for the war effort so they had to find a combo that would hold up to wear and tear that the coin would see in everyday use

Seems this combo was a good choice, not too soft , but not too hard, and many coins found today are still in good shape even after a lot of use

Silver wasn't really used much in WW2 that i know of, copper, nickel, iron and other metals were used in the war effort

If they used silver it was very limited use, mostly i think electronics, and other electric items were where silver was used, again i'm not sure about this

The most important strategic use of silver in WW2 was in coinage.
