The mint site has images of actual coins now. I wish I could say I like them. I am all for a dollar coin but these things leave much to be desired.

Thanks, Sumnom.

When are people going to accept that Americans don't like to carry around, lose, drop, etc. change?

Are these replacements for the current dollar coin kinda like the state quarters?

  Nothing scarier than two coin nerds debating the use of dollar coins!

No. The act that mandated the Presidential Dollar series also provides that the Sacagewea Dollars would also be produced. There must be a Sacagewea Dollar produced for every two Presidential Dollars.

Dollar coins will never replace the paper Dollar as long as a choice is available. Ask Canada and Great Britain.

I hate to say it, but those coins remind me of the Shell Presidential medals from the 1960s.

The reverse looks like it should be from a casino.

The mint is kinda like a casino I don't think I will jump on this one. That means its a surefire win-win situation!

I think they should have kept the eagle on the reverse.  Liberty is cool but nothing beats the eagle.

Why keep the same metal composition as the SAC?  They should have changed that instead of the reverse.

The eagle reverse of the sac is quite nice. It sure beats the new rendition of the SOL. Using the dollar sign ($) instead of writing out "dollar" is undignified in my not so humble opinion.

I think the obverse portraits leave a lot to be desired but the reverse is kind of nice and the lettered edge is kind of cool. I don't know how anyone else feels about this but I'm thinking of buying a few proof sets from the mint when they release them and keep them sealed in the mint box. I'm kind of thinking the first year of issue may prove to be a worthy investment much like the '99 state quarters. Who knows.
