I traded it for a crappy 1921 morgan I don't collect errors but this caught my eye.I would have thought that it would not fit in the machine the mint uses to wrap the coins but it made it out.    :dunno:

That error is called a off center strike

Worth about $2.00 according to my 2004 Offical blackbook on US Coin Prices

This error happens when the coin planchet does not rest in its proper place inside the coin press

it is when the blank is fed into the press. it doesnt drop into the collor and rest ontop of the collor and only the part that rest on the low die get struck. and the prt that rest on the collor remains unstruck

They sometimes do end up in circulation, but they usually don't stay there long. Librtyhead, did you check for a space between the A and M in America? It could be a (rare) 1999 Wide AM or a (scarce) 1998 Wide AM.

I actually have one. It's a 199x off center and its been attributed by Lincoln cent attributer Chuck Daughtry. Unfortunately, ANACS won't slab it as such because the strike just missed the AM and even with Chuck's letter of proof, they said no to the Wide AM label. It did grade out MS 65. I'll find the updated pics and the letter and post them later. Here's a thread from the PCGS forums discussing it with some pics.
