This site is incredible. If you want to know more about Liberty Nickels, here's the place.

http://www.libertynickels.org/intro.php?&page=intro

One of my favorite pages is the patterns. It's broke down by year with great pictures of each one.

Click on the small pictures for some eye candy. My favorite is the last one.

Enjoy

Thanks, MrLee. It looks like a very helpful site. I'll have to get out my Liberty Nickels and see if I have any varieties. That's my favorite part--the varieties.

BTW, I wouldn't trust the price guides there. They haven't been updated for a while.

This thread is worthless without pictures.

Here is the "No Cents" subtype.

And below you will see the "Cents" subtype reverse.

No, no. These aren't mine. These are public domain images.

This one isn't mine either.

It's the Eliasberg 1913 that just sold for five million dollars.

These are some great looking coins. I have a 1907, but it is somewhat faded. The numbers are clear and you can make out the features, but it is a long way from proof. I would post it, but I'm sure noone is interested when everyone probably has much better.

Go ahead and post it. I think it would be cool to see some pictures of examples that might reasonably be within our budgets.

I told you not to expect to much, but it does look better than this in person. This is about the best I could do with a scan. I am going to post the obverse on this post, but the reverse will have to be in a follow-up post because I'm not quite certain who to put them together. I've tried it in the past and it did not work.

Here is my contribution. I have liked the Liberty nickels for a while and it is really an under-appreciated set that will someday get it's due. I especially like the 1883 NC as that was known as the gangsta coin that was plated in gold although the one (1883) with cents is worth more.

From the C.u. forums I have found that there were lots of die cracks for this year.
This is my coin.

Friend's coin looks like most of my Liberty Head Nickels. In fact, it's better than some of them. Well, I didn't want my 1886 to feel inferior. Now my 1883 No Cents is in EF, but those were heavily hoarded and hard to find in low grades.

Nice pictures, guys. None of mine are photographed.

e.f. is a great grade to collect those! An album w/those all in e.f. looks circulated yet attainable. And I feel will be hard to get in another 20 yrs.  I must have 8-10 in e.f. for the 1883 also 4 w/cents its really a great and easy series to put together at a low cost.

To expand--There are three issues that have to be taken into account in determining a target grade for a matching set--1885, 1886, and 1912-S. All three get pretty pricey pretty fast. Then there is the problem of finding the No Cents coin in a matching low grade.

This is a challenging short series that has few enough collectors that the prices haven't been driven sky high by demand. In fact, I have been advocating all five cent series from Capped Bust Half Dimes forward as attractive collecting options.
