The wind blows by and the air burns your lungs. As the breeze whisks the hair from your head you find it's filled with sand and sea salt from oceans past and you think to yourself...why would anyone live here. The temperature is 113 degrees and it feels like your standing in front of an open oven, the sun burns your eyes as you squint to allow only a slit of light in; in turn your head throbs with pain from holding this position as you unwillingly walk about. The sun relentlessly beats down on you causing your body temperature to rise...then the sand storm sets in... The wall of brown chaos races at you with lightening speed, you think to yourself, "Did I close the window on my CHU?". As the wall hits you the sand lifts from around your feet and dances in the air striking you as though your confronting a sandblaster... you push on. The sky grows orange, then darker still; in the middle of the day it is night, you see the automatic lights turn on around the FOB and you think to yourself... is this the end?

As the wind pushes you around, the sand burns your eyes and the heat cooks you from the outside in, you feel a drop of refreshment on you...but only for a second. You realize it has started to rain from the sand in the air collecting the water from around it but when it hits you, you realize the droplets have picked up the sand as it fell to the earth causing the rain to turn to mud. By the time you find cover, you look down and realize you are already covered... in mud.

     There it is folks, what it's like about twice a week here.  The other five days out of the week, it's 110 to 115 (Right now) and the sun is a blazing.    I just thought you would enjoy a little something about what we live through over here.

I hope you enjoyed, I wish I had more time to better write it as this is a firs tdraft,

Damn, I can't even take it out of air condition when it is over 90, LOL. I can't wait for you to get the hell out of there. That would be horrendous. And you do it with all your gear on as well!  Amazing!  I am glad you wrote that so that people know what soldiers go through even when not fighting.

I think you need to write a book when you get home Ray!  Keep as many notes as you can, jot them down like you're doing, send them to your wife, whatever you can to save these thoughts.............someday I want to pick your book up off the shelf and tell people, "Hey, I know this guy!  I even sent him coffee!"   ::chuckle::
