Let them rip, I'll do the best I can.  Understand, I do not know to much about the politics of the war but I'll do the best I can.

In a word... Dangerous.

Alot depends on the job you hold and the location your at.  Not that there is many safe places over there, but it's different if your a Cook on a Patrol Base (PB) or Forward Observation Base (FOB) or if your an Infantryman out on daily patrols, Mounted or dismounted.

As for how things are over there?  The threat to me did not seem to get any better or worse.  People were dieing when I got there, people were dieing when I left.   I did see the Iraqi Army improve, when we first arrive they were unorganized, without equipment and their defenses sucked.  By the time we left, they were doing patrols by themselves and mending their own injured soldeirs.  They came a long way.

If this does not answer your question please keep asking questions... that goes for everyone.

I did not see to much of the Iraqi Politics.  I do know how hard headed they are, but I did see everyone working together (With the Battalion I worked with) I saw, Kurds, Shi-ites... who else?  They all worked together.

Now, on the outside of the wire, thats a different story.

My pleasure.  Dpoole was a great support while I was over there this time and I offered to answer his questions.  He suggested I start the thread and thought it was a good idea.

It's great to be home and great to be a part of this forum.

Are the people in Iraq only out to make a buck off the Americans, or are they really willing to be independant and take charge of themselfs and chuck all dependence from us.From what I here from some guys over there is no Iraqi sense of pride.......no loyalty to any American, and no loyalty or trust towards the Iraqi government,as the old rule of "fool me once but dont fool me twice" mentality is in place..........jus wondering.

Great, an easy question :)

I spent the first 8 months on PB Yusufiyah.  There are a few names for this Patrol Base but Yusufiyah is the one most used.  Other names were FOB Joe (Named after the first soldier that was KIA in that area) it was also known as the Potato Factory (Because we lived and worked in a bulding that used to house potatos).

Yusufiyah was located in a sector that was known as "The Triangle of Death" due to the amount of deaths and attacks in the area.

I then moved back to my Platoon to take over the Platoon Sergeant Position.  This move brought me back to the Baghdad Airport to a FOB known as FOB Striker.  I spent my last four months on Striker.

:)

First of all, they are ALL out to make a dollar on America.  Who can blame them, there are 25 Million people in Iraq... 24 Million of them are poor... I mean DIRT poor.

I don't have my journals on this computer, I need to get the 4 phases of Iraqi people that I came up with (My own assesment).  Thats good reading.

:)

Pretty much your statement is accurate in my opinion.

TDY my a$$!  Sounds like multiple non-command sponsored PCSes to me!!

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. -Matthew 22:37-39

Hey Ray and welcome back.:bravo:Ray, it appears that even the trained Iraqi forces don't really "get" what they are fighting for, witness the fact that 4,000 Iraqi forces refused to be deployed into Baghdad away from their home provinces. Its my contentin that unless and until they put a national belonging above provincial and religious differences there never will be a quote "nation" that our President talks so warmly and lovingly about as our reason for being there.

What's the troops take on this?

Thanks again. ;)
