As the temperatures are climbing towards the hundreds again for the summer, I think of things I have done in the past that have made the temperature more tolerable in my house as well as think of new things to make the temperature more tolerable yet.

I thought I would share those here so that others may benefit from them and so others can add things to the list.

Here are the things that have been productive thus far

insulating the attic with fibre insulation

using fluorescent bulbs instead of regular

installing ceiling fans

Ran flex hose from dryer outside

Just these steps alone have enabled me to only use the air when cooking and in the hottest part of the day

These are steps I still plan to take

Install Radiant Barrier aluminum insulation in the attic and the walls (For the walls between the sheetrock and paneling I plan to hang)

Install heat reflective material on the windows

But electric kitchen appliances( The less I use the stove the less I generate heat)

It is my hope that by the time I'm through our ceiling fans will be enough to keep us cool.

I hope this is helpful and would love to hear more ideas.

I have been going to classes on geothermal heating (required) and am looking into a type of chiller that uses below ground tubing to cool the space. basically it uses the first 10 ft of the soil to cool the air and return it back to the house . The opposite of radiant heat.

As a "cost" this may be to easily implied. The technology is there, it is only an idea in my mind. Hot air rises....cold air sinks, the energy in the difference between the two may be enough to form a "bellows" of air,  renewable  on a smaller sale and warranting new construction to test it. So a "cost "could not be quoted on a realistic scale.

The heating through geo-thermal is a reality but like the real estate guys say "location, location, location" and cooling through geo-physiology is now a thing for dreamers like myself..............or better yet ....cavemen.<sic.>
