No I don't believe spirits/ghosts can effect us in that way, I believe their "abilities" are limited by the fact that they aren't alive (but they wish they still were or could be alive)

I believe spirits/ghosts can only act as observers of the activities of the living, they may try and effect the living by moving objects, appearing as "ghosts", or other mischief or as an attempt to communicate but I don't think they can enter your physical body and control you, no. 

They can do enough damage by manifesting externally

Ninja can you explain more here please? You have said here "can only act as observers" and then say "can do enough damage by manifesting externally".

Sorry to be a pest but that seems somewhat contradictory?

You didn't derail it. I had also asked about his remark because he said "most" possessions but didnt go in to the remainder other than that Devil statement.

and thank you..those...passages? are interesting in relation to this subject. The first one doesnt sound so much like possession but more like he gave them some sort of temporary (permanent?) powers...or perhaps KNOWLEDGE to help others.

Not sure about the second one...I'd need more background.

Third one also doesnt sound possission-like to me. sounds more like someone would be talking and invoke the name of god as a defense more than god would enter that person and act to cast out the demons through him.

You are right.:) He gave the disciples incredible ability to cast out demons in His name. It causes a lot of problems with the Jews and Romans of that time. It also brought many to believe He was the Christ as you could amagine.
