Dear friends, The following verse shall therefore suffice Us; may thine eyes be solaced therewith, and mayest thou attain unto that which hath been treasured and concealed therein: "It is God who hath reared the heavens without pillars thou canst behold; then mounted His throne, and imposed laws on the sun and moon: each travelleth to its appointed goal. He ordereth all things. He maketh His signs clear, that ye may have firm faith in the presence of your Lord." Ponder then, O My friend, the words "firm faith" that have been mentioned in this verse. It saith that the heavens and the earth, the throne, the sun and the moon, all have been created to the end that His servants may have unswerving faith in His presence in His days. By the righteousness of God! Contemplate, O My brother, the greatness of this station, and behold the condition of the people in these days, fleeing from the Countenance of God and His Beauty "as though they were affrighted asses".39 Wert thou to reflect upon that which We have revealed unto thee, thou wouldst undoubtedly grasp Our purpose in this utterance and discover that which We have desired to impart unto thee within this paradise. Perchance thine eyes may rejoice in beholding it, thine ears take delight in hearing that which is recited therein, thy soul be enthralled by recognizing it, thy heart illumined by comprehending it, and thy spirit gladdened by the fragrant breezes that waft therefrom. Haply thou mayest attain unto the pinnacle of divine grace and abide within the Ridvan of transcendent holiness. (Baha'u'llah, Gems of Divine Mysteries, p. 43) Free.man

Yet another idea that is a fresh Revelation from God!!! the idea that CREATION ITSELF exists to show us reasons for firm faith in Him! Most of us have long realised that Creation is a REASON to believe in God --- but never has God revealed that the REASON Creation exists is to provide us that faith! And also of course, to be the source of the opportunities for growth that will make our souls strong and radiant!

muddawber wrote: I find it odd that the Baha'u'llah spoke the king's English.Dear friend, Baha'u'llah neither spoke nor wrote in English, Baha'u'llah us Arabic and Persian. Arabic and Persian are very complex languages and Shoghi Effendi A descendant of Bahaullah and only authoritative interpreter of Baha'i Scripture was masterful in Arabic, Persian, and English. Shoghi Effendi translated the Writings into English. Because there are concepts in Arabic and Persian that are difficult to translate into English, Shoghi Effendi, chose that form of English as the best vehicle to convey the heart of the Scriptures. I will provid the script in Arabic and Persian if you would prefer? How about the following: ????? ?????? ?????????????? ??????????? ????? ??????? ????????????? ????? ??????????? ???????? ????????? ?????? ?????? .37 Free.man Note: read from right to left

muddawber, I see that others here have already addressed your comment. Was it a rhetorical comment or...? I know that when I first started reading Baha'u'llah's Writings (English translations, that is) about 5 years ago I found them very awkward, and still do. It is the style of the King James Bible which was -- and some folks still think is -- the epitome of high English style. But that was 400 years ago. I'm not a fan of the translation style. So I find myself substituting modern English usage in many cases as I read the text. We know what "thou" and "thee" and "hath" etc. means in our usage today. If it makes it more understandable to you, the reader, substitute! Once I got passed that hurdle, I found the Writings of Baha'u'llah, especially some of the more mystical works, such as The Seven Valleys and Hidden Words, to be absolutely wonderful. I may not be a fan of the English translation style, but I am a fan of the One from whom they originated. And that, I think, is the bigger point. Peace, -- Stewart

Dear friend, Nice to read you! What do you make of Sirlamre's notion that, if I read it right, creation was in the beginning and is now so the world may have faith in it's Creator. Maybe that is why Genesis tells of the firmament and more being created before man. Something to have firm faith in for man to have something to believe in when he came forth? Free.man

MD- Keep in mind also that Baha'u'llah wrote this 160 years or so ago. English was developed even then-- Shoghi Effendi, who as noted is the translator, was Baha'u'llah's great-grandson, and was an Oxford educated scholar, and served at times as an advisor for affairs in the Middle East, to various officials for both the government of Israel and Britain. He was tremdendously well educated, and fluent in translating multiple languages. His chosen translations are the official standard of translation for the Baha'i Faith, now used when personal letters from the Founders show up from someone's collection and are translated into English.

It wasan attempt to stay true to the style of Persian and Arabic in which Baha`u'llah wrote. . .more classical. He was much loved by the Sufi's one should remember who like the esoteric and mystic nature of Baha`u'llah's writing quite a lot. The Seven Valleys, for instance, was written as a commentary on a much earlier classical Sufi poem, "The Conference of the Birds." Regards, Scott
