This is a series of posts I recently put on my site, of somewhere we like to visit with the kids and dogs for a great day out.

This is another of our favourite spots to visit for a day in the summer.

It's situated about 5kms past Otivar on the old Granada mountain pass (El Cabra) going from Almuñecar.

Like I said, after about 5kms the other side of Otivar, you will see a left hand bend with big gates on the left hand side and a small hut about 20 mtrs through the gates.
It nows costs to enter (as of about 4 years ago) :X  about 5euros each and 5euros more for the car. To a max of 25 or 30 euros per vehicle)

Some loonies think leaving the car at the gates rather than paying the 5 euros to drive down is better.  THEY ONLY DO THAT ONCE!
Pay for your car.  Its a long walk down (2kms down a steep dusty track) and a MUCH longer walk back up (especially with small kids).  You will FRY!

Drive down the track until you go over the scarey bridge (faint hearted -don't look!), then up a bit more track getting a bit rough, but cars can manage.  You don't need a 4 x 4.  As you go up the hill you will see cars parked on the left under shade of the trees.  You can either park there, or continue past them to the river, and park on the bank there.

Once at the river, get out and although there is a nice warm shallow river to play in right there, if you turn right and follow the river against it's flow, you come to the most amazing rock pools.  Several of them, so you don't have to share too much space with other folk.

If you follow the river upstream, (parts you will have to swim across, about 8ft - I managed), and the surroundings become glorious.  But the further up the river you travel the cooler it gets!  If you have a young family, best to get one of the adults to stay at the first pool with them.  (You run a risk taking a non waterproof camera or bag if you head upstream as, like I said there are parts that you can only get across by swimming, so unless you are prepared to throw your camera to someone already crossed, forget it!)

Closer to the first pool is a wicked rope bridge, that you can get great photos from.  And Take great shots of the family on from below.

If you look straight up from the bridge (maybe across just a bit), there is a ledge many metres above it where the loonies leap from (Eagleking - my then 11 year old son included).
Here's proof!

Juggernought  (my other son) was in the foreground of the last photo in the pool.  He wasn't keen on the long dive, but he opted for the left bank which is not so far to drop!  (sensible lad!)

Did you spot the wooden bridge in the back of the last photo?

Anyway, here is the first pool which is where I like to stay most of the time.  It is shaded by the trees on the bank for when you need to get out of the sun to picnic too.

All that white is where someone just jumped in, at the deeper end of the rock pool.

The water is sooo  blue and crystal clear.

 TIP!

Take plenty of water to drink.
Take your rubbish Home with you!
Always wear shoes in the water and make sure the kids do (NOT flip flops, but old daps or something that won't fall off, or be hazardous when they are clambering over the slippery rocks.

Believe me, I used to mollycoddle my kids too!  But once you live out here, the rules kinda slip and they get to adventure like we used to when we were kids.

It all sounds lovely - although for some reason I couldn't see any of your pictures.

Am off to Google it now!
