  SIESTAS
Get used to it.  It must be hell here for holiday-makers, who naturally love to lay in bed til a much later hour (and of course the shift from UK to Spain moves an hour too). As a well earned sleep-in til 11.30, then a leisurely breakfast/brunch over a crossword (or a quick paw through your phrase book), may result in your setting off to the shops around noon to 1.30pm…WRONG!.  Everything except cafes and bars shuts from 1.30/2pm until 5.30/6pm. So either get up earlier to catch the morning markets (usually open til 2pm), or be sensible, and especially during July/August, stay indoors or at least in the shade, and trundle around the town in the cooler evening opening sessions.  The towns wake up in the evening, and stay that way until 3 or 4am, although most shops are closed by 9pm.

FIESTAS
If you were hoping for a peaceful vacation, please check dates for the local fiestas.  They are the most splendid affairs, but you must programme yourself to walk with an air of confidence. The local children all throng the fiestas waiting for unwitting victims for their ‘Banger’ pranks.  No, it is not exactly legal, but so long as no one is injured (and that no,one seems to suffer physical harm, never ceases to amaze me).  They set them off in bottles (yes, glass ones – which amazingly do not break), they drop them down chimneys, and never, I repeat NEVER be tempted to pick up what looks like an abandoned piece of
fruit in the street - For it surely will be about to explode. If you are nearby, then you will be sporting the latest in Designer Fruit-wear or “Fruit of the Boom”!

It took a while after moving here to get my head around the siesta attitude. But I mut admit - we've now got into it ourselves. The hotter the weather gets, the less comfortable it is to work in. So we start at 9, and work til 2... then we break until 6 - have a dip in the pool... read a book... take a stroll... climb a volcano... yada yada (no, not all on one day lol)... and then we work from 6 til around 8 or 9.

It gives us more energy, and splits our day nicely. Of course we will work the afternoon instead if business needs it... but the siesta is definitely our "friend"!

Great name Luvdawgs! I see our "loves" (on the left over there) are the same too! Well... my hubby and my dog... as opposed to your hubby and your dog! I'm not into a swap! Ooh, unless you've got Johnny Depp tucked away over there!? Even Antonio Banderas would do... at a push!

Glad to know we have some things in common, Elle. :D  I don't have Johnny or Antonio hidden away here, so guess we'll just have to admire them at a distance. ::chuckle::

I hope your hubby is as wonderful to you as mine is to me. What type of dog do you have?  Please give the dog a hug for me. ::huggers::

Hi Luvdawgs... and apologies for not replying earlier (kinda got swamped with work) But in answer to yue Q's............

Yes, my hubby is fantastic - love him loads, even when he snores (mind you I snore louder lol)

Our dog is from the local animal shelter. We know he has Labrador in him, but we're not sure what else he has... he's still growing at the rate of knotts... so it could be Great Dane for all we know! I've attached a photo, so you can see him. His name is Guido (Spanish for guide)... and he's a lovely lad! He's 8 months old now. And the only things he does wrong are woofing too much, jumping up, and being a bit toothy. But he's learning... and all seems to be going well.

Have a good week honey!

Great to hear from you, Elle! Your dog is a cutie! :smitten: We adopted our dog from the pound as well.  Our previous one, who lived to be 17, we adopted from an animal aide society.

We're both very lucky to have such good husbands. :) I don't know what I would've done without mine helping me during tough times these past couple of months!

By the way, I took six years of Spanish in high school and college (university), so I can speak it somewhat, but am a bit rusty.  If Spanish speaking people speak it slowly enough, I can usually comprehend much of what they're saying. :D

You have a wonderful week too!!!
