Random thoughts from the peat and gorse hills of South West Ireland.  I have learnt to fall  into the bogs in many creative ways.  I have learnt some wonderful new Gaelic words to express my feelings when I fall into the bogs in creative ways.  My drought-ridden Aussie psyche has learnt that rain not only exists, it can fall on you in many creative ways.  I have learnt some wonderful new Gaelic ways to express my feelings when rain falls on me in creative ways.  I have learnt that the Irish are totally awesome in crazy creative ways.   Last night I met a 'hill batchelor' - this is a family forum so I can't explain what a hb is, but he was very colourful. Today I danced a jig in a little Irish music shop with the owner, who dragged out his concertina and played away, and then plied me with whiskey.. it being 10am.  A farmer gave me a ride in haytruck during one rainstorm.  Landladies make big pots of tea here. And coffee drinkers can convert. I have never understood how GREEN green can get. And how good a big plate of Irish breakfast can be...

I need to expect the unexpected, as soon as I forget-- I deserve  to get slapped in the face suddenly by a piano.

And never open a bulkhead with a hot coffee in my hand.

Ah yes, the falling piano... the old 'smite key' caper.

There's a good Irish saying here

Slainte na bhradain chugat - croi folloin agus bog fliuch

or something like that

May you have the health of the salmon - stout heart and wet mouth

And Libertyhead - I think your wise words about the bulkhead would translate beautifully into Irish, to be sure. I'll work on it.  Slan leat!

It was someone (a new slimeball "friend" of Snooze's) from a cesspool-like site you aren't familiar with, I believe.  PM me for details if you desire.   :)

As for being on the ball - thanks!  I have friends in many places and I am thankful for that.

What's going on, Pinky, Frankie???? Did I miss something I should have seen here and done something about? I'm only on very sporadically at the moment.

Grin. Thanks, Frankie. I've been reasonably faithful to you, considering the silver tongued sweet nothings whispered in my maidenly ear by drop dead gorgeous charming Irishmen.

Actually, one of the most wonderful people I've met must have been 80 years old. A native Irish speaker who had a vast knowledge of history and a fascinating take on life, the universe, everything.   We talked for hours by a peat fire about the layers that make up modern Ireland, the language, the music, the way Christianity hijacked the old religions and was itself re-hijacked to fit those old beliefs, politics and how the normans fared in the face of a non-feudal society where the children they begat on the local women were brought up by those women as Irish children. The English times, the Europe times.. all with most unexpected insight.

And he could answer my questions about the crowning of the goat at Puck Fair here each year, and the ritual killing of the wren on St Stephen's Day.  ...

I love it when I meet people who carve through my mindset and make me rethink ....

That is truly wonderful, moguitar.  It will be a tearful reunion, but what a gift!

Thanks for the compliments and encouragement Britt and FGP. I had very much wanted to go to Australia on R&R week. I was in such hectic, bone weary, heavy combat flying that by the time I applied for my R & R, they told me I couldn't have one because I had less than 90 days left (I had 89). I just about broke down crying, and was pissed off. After all I had gone through, some REMF wouldn't let a combat weary burn out go to relax, and I never got to see Australia except on very good TV documentaries. Better than slippin' on a cane toad and having a brown tree snake drop on me!

I Wish For You...

Comfort on difficult days,

Smiles when sadness intrudes,

Rainbows to follow the clouds,

Laughter to kiss your lips,

Sunsets to warm your heart,

Gentle hugs when spirits sag,

Friendships to brighten your being,

Beauty for your eyes to see,

Confidence for when you doubt,

Faith so that you can believe,

Courage to know yourself,

Patience to accept the truth,

And love to complete your life.

..
..
..
..
..
And if you can't have all that...

Then I wish you enough chocolate
to make it through the tough times....
