To commemorate her 69th birthday on October 1, actress/vocalist, Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan's  Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was "My  Favorite Things" from  the legendary movie "Sound Of Music."        Here are the lyrics she used:
Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting, Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings, Bundles of magazines tied up in string, These are a few of my favorite things.
Cadillac's and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses, Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses, Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings, These are a few of my favorite things.
When the pipes leak, When the bones creak, When the knees go bad, I simply remember my favorite things, And then I don't feel so bad.
Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions, No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions, Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring, These are a few of my favorite things.
Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin', Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin', And we won't mention our short, shrunken frames, When we remember our favorite things.
When the joints ache, When the hips break, When the eyes grow dim, Then I remember the great life I've had, And then I don't feel so bad.
(Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd that lasted over four minutes and repeated encores.)

Thanks all of you!!!

I never really understood, LC,  the full significance of the butter thread - if it had one -, just remembered it as kind of fun and thought it would be nice to carry a happier bit of the past on into the present, give it a fresh, clean twist.  But then maybe looking back is just a bad idea.    You could turn into a pillar of salt like Lot's wife, or lose your Euridice forever and get torn apart by ecstatically frenzied dancing ladies like Orpheus.

And random or otherwise,  that's my last word.

Probably

Pam, for me personally, anything that can be remembered from that place that was fun is not a bad thing.  Fun things there were few and far between but the butter thread was one of them.

And I'm sending this to my Mom as well!  Thanks for putting it out here!  ::thumbs::

I really appreciate your saying what you did Luvdawgs and UsedToRide. It was a good thread, for me a reminder of past good times - which were, as U said increasingly few and far between. And I've tried to bring only good baggage with me into a new life. I don't want to harp on past grievances. For me, they're over and on the way to being forgotten. I've really moved on. And it's liberating.

I've never been a great Julie Andrews fan. I did enjoy her in Sound of Music the first seven or eight times, but developed an allergy after that. And as Mary Poppins she pretty much got up my nose. She did try to dirty her squeaky clean image in Victor Victoria or whatever that was, but, for me the damage was done.

This, awesome takeoff is however a class act!!!! And worthy of respect.
