Hello! I read about "The Dangerous Book for Boys" a month ago and my blessed father, obviously tapping into my thoughts, purchased it for my son. It is a fabulous read full of essential information for boys. In today's world of video games and junk television, few modern children experience the joys of a quality childhood. This book includes much of the information and activities that kept us busy in childhood. It is a terrific resource and a fun read. My son and I have made it one of our bedtime staples. Several times this week, I have discretely removed it from his shelf to peruse the pages, remembering the adventures and experiences of childhood visits with my father.
When was the last time you saw a child play marbles? This book includes the rules of the game. Want to build a safe tree house? The plans are here. Remember reading the Constitution of the United States? So do the authors, brothers Conn and Hal Iggulden, thus they have included it. Think every boy should know the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World? The authors agree, and descriptions of each are featured. A list of essential pocket tools (compass, fishing hook, needle and thread, Etc.) is on the first page, and more notable excerpts from the writings of Shakespeare are in the center. In short, it is an awesome resource, full of essential "boy information" for a well-rounded education.
I highly recommend this book. Though it is written for boys, I would purchase it for a girl, as well. I am quite sure the authors will produce sequels to this volume. There is a wealth of cultural information and fun experiences to add.
