Well you need a licence to drive, licence to own a gun, licence to own a TV (well over here you do), licence to own certain kinds of animal, I don't see anything wrong with having to apply for a licence to have kids.

Quite frankly there are many people out there who shouldn't be allowed to muddy up the genepool..............in my opinion.

Agreed.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of poorly-parented children out there.

This is why parent education is so important, even more vital than higher education: If someone raises their child poorly, society suffers the consequence, not only the child and the child's victims.  If someone fails to finish their university degree, society doesn't suffer.  I wish more attention were given to parent education.

Tag, in of itself, is a delightful games that teaches children how to resolve conflict and get along.  Banning it seems odd.  Instead, I would advocate removing or counseling children who go beyond the bounds of normal playground behavior.  Why deprive other children from experience a normal and useful right of passage?

Wow, I am surprised you guys are embracing these VERY anti-freedom notions.

I agree not wanting so support anti-freedom measures in theory but I think the world has got to the stage where we have to say, "I'm afraid the time when any brainiac could breed like a rabbit regardless of their competence as parents is over I'm afraid".

In places like Africa they need condoms more than food aid.

I guess on the over population discussion you could very much place me in the "conservative" pigeon hole if you so wish !

I agree something as important as having and raising a child, shouldn't be taken so lightly...but then how would you go about it?

This sounds like something the NWO would embrace.  ::sly:: ::spy::

If people had to get a license to have a child...i could see a whole new underground movement starting up.

We would have an extremely difficult time mandating people not having sex &/or using birth control...the only way I could see it having a possibility of any success...would be that once a person is pregnant and goes to their doctor...that the parents are required to enroll in parenting classes throughout the pregnancy.  :dunno:

There are ways to prevent people from having children without proper education, but they're fairly Orwellian.  In theory, you could introduce mandatory contraceptive (think Norplant, or something similar for men) that would do the job, and then once the tests are passed, the implant could be reomoved.

Barring some procedure like that, I don't think you'd ever make a dent in the problem.  Simply making it illegal would be about as effective as Prohibition was in the '30s (and probably much, much less effective).

I think the better/easier route would be real enforcement of child welfare laws.  If you abuse your child, your child gets taken away.  Permanently.  And you go to jail.  Permanently.  "Well, that was fun.  What's the next case on the docket?"

Bureaucracies love binary modes of thinking. The answer to them is either permit or forbid an activity instead of adding some nuances. Why not forbid violent kids from playing tag while allowing everyone else to play? Because it involves thinking.
