DES MOINES, Iowa — Jane Hambleton has dubbed herself the "meanest mom on the planet." After finding alcohol in her son's car, she decided to sell the car and share her 19-year-old's misdeed with everyone — by placing an ad in the local newspaper. The ad reads: "OLDS 1999 Intrigue. Totally uncool parents who obviously don't love teenage son, selling his car. Only driven for three weeks before snoopy mom who needs to get a life found booze under front seat. $3,700/offer. Call meanest mom on the planet...." full article Last edited on 02:49 pm by Amy |

If the kid had tried his "it isn't my booze" with a cop, the cop wouldn't have had any mercy, either. It's in your car, you are responsible. I applaud the Mom for doing this. Good for her. I'd have done similar.

She says she believes her son, but is still going ahead with selling the car... geez, either she really doesn't believe her son, or she's not only mean, but dumb as well for incurring the expense of an ad and attracting the publicity to herself (and probably, at least in her locality, her son as well) Last edited on 10:04 am by bjork73 |

I disagree Bjork...if the deal beforehand was no booze in the car, whether it was his or not is a moot point. He knew the consequences and ignored them when he allowed a passenger to bring it into the car to begin with. yeah, running the ad an extra week is a tad attention seeking...but hey, it's her 15 minutes of fame. I have no problem letting her have the spotlight for a while.

He knew the consequences and ignored them when he allowed a passenger to bring it into the car to begin with. Who's to say the son knew it was there? Was he supposed to search his car every time he exited it to check for potential contraband? Trust me, duriing the high school and college years, all sorts of stuff, not all belonging to the original driver, ends up in cars, and one is not always sure how it got there. To not only sell the car, but to make some sort of cheap MADD campaign or something, just seems incredibly rash. Anybody ever hear of benefit of the doubt?
