Thought I'd start a new thread instead of putting this in the year-round thread.
The whole story, as near as I can figure...
Friday night the upper grades put on their musical and watched the tape of it during the cast party. My daughter said "all the kids" were laughing about how they looked fat on TV and my daughter Katie joked that Mariah looked fat.
The following week Mariah was on the swings and kicked her shoes off into the grass. Katie threw them back to her and they landed in the grass. Mariah said that she was going to return them to the store but couldn't because Katie had ruined them and that she had to pay Mariah $15. Katie refused and in the fight Mariah slapped her, said something about being called fat, and scratched up her arm.
After contacting the principal, the other 7th grade teacher talked to the girls separately. Katie was told to be more careful about what she said, lost a recess, and was told not to ask what Mariah's consequences were, or to watch to see what they were. I emailed the principal because I felt I had a right to know and he said Mariah had freely admitted she was wront, was told that what she did was never OK - no matter the provocation, and given a detention.
I'm kind of upset because I don't think that was much of a consequence. Basically Mariah learned that she can do whatever she wants as long as she admits guilt right away, and all she'll get is an hour detention.
What would have been the consequences at your school?
Cloth diapering stylish? You betcha, come see why!
