Does anyone use an after school program at their child's school? What kind of credentials do the adults have? Our school started one last year but the adults have no credentials or background checks or anything. It's a religious-based school but I don't think that's an excuse.

I will be looking into some this comming year but have no real input at this time. It kinda scares me a little. Dance, music, Karate, gymnastics. It may be many until I find the niche my children will enjoy.

I'd be worried about some unknown parents  of some "religious" school too, especially if they had NO credentials proving their ability to wisely look after children in large groups.

If I knew the people personally, it'd be different--- but I'd still expect them to be the parents who had kids over to their house all the time.
Nice people with their own kids are one thing --- those same nice people when challenged by looking after 25 kids at once can be a different matter.

Better for a school to have professionallly trained people doing that kind of thing----

I'd be concerned about a "religious" school which was happily going along with using non-professionals and so on.

One wonders what ELSE they allow untrained non-professionals to do to the children in that place?

It'd be interesting to know if non-professionals are "helping" in the classroom, managing children's discipline and doing teaching and other things that should be handled by professionals.

the school my grandson attends has SACC which is school aged child care. the people who are in charge at each individual school, are certified by the state. the ones who are working with the kids are mostly college students working on their degrees in teaching or child psycology, or some other form of child services. they all have tough background checks. we have been involved with the program for 6 years, and there has not been one incident during that time with any child.
