I wonder what the result would be if the test subjects were families involved in an intentional community based on a secular ideology such as Leninist Marxism.

That is a very interesting question.  One of my childhood friend's had a devout Communist father.  His dad was extremely well-read and made a point of sharing his views with his kids.  Today, my friend is an extremely civic-minded social worker and an ... you guessed it ... avowed athiest.  He and I have talked at length about religion and spirituality.  In my opinion, his belief in the inherent good of humanity and the human capacity for peace are essentially spiritual beliefs, though he does not recognize them as such.  His father, by the way, was also a survivor of the Holocaust, yet another interesting dynamic.

You raise an interesting point, construct.  I have never seen statistics on this question.  It would make for interesting reading.

Then when they grow up they have ALL the information on which to make a considered and independent decision for themselves. They can CHOOSE a religion based on their own personal beliefs and reject any (or all)  religion on a similar basis.

Anyone trying to indoctrinate their religious beliefs on children are no better than paedophiles in my opinion. The exploitation and indoctrination of a childrens mind is equally as bad as trying to exploit them sexually and physically.

There is a great deal of research suggesting that children be raised in primarily ONE religious or spiritual practice, yet made aware that others exist.  Children raised in two-Faith homes, for example, are often left very confused or turned-off by religion.

In my own case, I have raised my children within the Bahá'í Faith, teaching them Bahá'í precepts and prayers, but I have also made them aware of other Faiths and Holy books, and I have shared my personal belief that infinite paths to God exist.

Twenty men can call themselves Christian and abide by the same spiritual traditions, for example, but each of these men will enjoy a very unique experience of God.  Though we may share a Faith path, human beings experiences spirituality differently.

Hmmm.  I'll have to find some stats.

What kind of time do you think we have?

But trust me on this, you don't want the state teaching your children anything about religion. The Pilgrims came over here for that very reason.

I don't see anything wrong with a high school elective surveying the history of philosophy and religion. Is that really outside the realm of possibility? We have been trying to make room for that in Texas. That was also a part of my own private school's curriculum.

My high school had a world religions elective.

Interesting.

The Religion of environmentalism isn't good for kids...it teaches them that that dirt is worth more then they are.

There are other religions too...that aren't good for kids...because it makes them slaves to a system.

I have never heard of the "Religion of environmentalism" being taught in schools.

The best gift a teacher can give her students is the capacity to seek truth for themselves.

I stand by that.
