A lot has been made of the differences between various Christian denominations and groups on these forums of late.  I thought it might be helpful to look at the few critical ideas that almost all Christians agree on.

I see these few things as the ones that really matter, that impact salvation and a direct relationship with God.  The other things, the things that might make one person Lutheran and another Baptist or Orthodox et cetera are of lesser importance.

- We agree that Jesus was a real person.

-We agree that Jesus was God incarnate.

- We agree that Jesus died as the only possible sacrifice for our sins.

- We agree that Jesus rose physically from the dead.

- We agree that Jesus ascended into Heaven.

- We agree that Jesus will return one day.

Those are foundational tenants of the Christian Faith without question and clearly impact salvation. Trust in these tenents is absolutely critical for ones belief in thier heart. ::wiseman::

Like Jesus said Himself...

Matthew 12:30

He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.

According to the bible; at the minimum to become a child of God by being "Born again" of the Spirit of God, one must believe that:

1. Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God.

2. God has raised Him from the dead on the 3rd day.

Jesus said, "Take heed that no one deceives you."

Matthew 24:4

I would add "died for our sins" to that list.

I based these 2 criteria from Romans 10:9-10...

Romans 10:9-10

...that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

Jesus said, "Take heed that no one deceives you."

Matthew 24:4
