And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

Some years ago, I had a close friend from Palestine.  He was Arab and grew up in a region occupied by Israeli tanks and armed soldiers, with horrifying living conditions and a lack of adequate schools.  When he was twelve, he was incarcerated for having thrown a stone at an Israeli tank.  He spent five years in jail and emerged with deep scars from beatings and rapes perpetrated by both guards and other inmates.  Two weeks after he was freed, he witnessed his best friend's head blown off by an Israeli machine gun.  When I knew him, he was a drug-addicted, angry mess of rage and hate.  He hated Israel and all Jewish people.  This made him a very mean-spirited person.

Many Muslims I have met are completely ignorant of the Revelation of Christ.  They accept Him as a Messenger of God and even accept His virgin birth, but they know nothing of His teachings, nor have they read the Bible.  Muslims are charged by the Qur'an to protect Christians and Jews, yet they know very little about either religion.  As a Bahá'í, I must be well-acquainted with the Bible and the Qur'an, thus I suggested to my friend that he learn something of Christ.  "Christ came before Muhammad," I reasoned with him, "and Muslims need to hear His message of love and reconciliation.  I think you need to know about it so you can find peace.  Only love will end the conflict."

My friend knew I was a Bahá'í.  For a Muslim, the idea of a religion following Islam is laughable, thus He was disinterested in my beliefs.  He knew I loved all the Messengers of God including Christ, however, thus he accepted my invitation to learn more about Christ.  Though he had a short attention span, ha-ha, my friend and I studied the New Testament several times and discussed the implications.  He was amazed to learn the "eye for an eye" concept embraced by both Judaism and Islam was completely abandoned by Christ.  In addition to reading the New Testament, we shared a few essays from my favorite Christian authors, people like Leo Buscaglia and C.S. Lewis.

I'll never forget the day my friend finally understood the Message of Christ.  We were driving down a street near my university, my friend in the passenger seat and me driving.  "You Bahá'ís are like Christians," he said, and I nodded as my Faith does indeed carry forward the love of Christ.  Then he said the most wondrous and unexpected thing: "If more people lived like Christ, the war in Palestine would end."  I was so pleased to hear him make this statement that I nearly drove off the road.  To hear an Israeli-hating, Jew-hating Palestinian Muslim say this was absolutely phenomenal.  I looked at him and said, "You are absolutely right.  Only love will end the bloodshed."

I think the trend for more Muslims to become Christian is very positive, particularly since many factions of Islam have far-diverged from the original message of Muhammad and reverted back to the corrupt tribal attitudes of their forbearers.  Of course, as a Bahá'í, I am also glad Muslims are converting to Christianity as it will open their hearts more to Bahá'u'lláh, the Return of Christ and the Messenger of God for this Day.  Thus, I am excited to see growing numbers of converts to Christianity.  Whatever draws the world's peoples closer to the Will of God must be positive!  God willing, embracing the love of Christ will assist North Africa and the Arab nations to find peace and understanding.

I read a stat that said more Muslims have converted to Christ in the last 5 years than in all of the last 1400 years combined!  That is amazing!

Of course such a movement does not come without a price.  Islam will fight back as we are seeing and I believe persecution of Christians will only grow worse.

However, faith in Christ seems to grow fastest in areas where it is fought against the hardest.

I have begun praying for the saftey of these new Middle Eastern Christians, they have a lot of hardship ahead.
