it took quite some time but i did read antiquties and wars of the jews with particular attention paid to the first century destruction at the hands of the romans.
i do believe josephus' allusion to Christ in such a matter of fact manner was indicitive of the many false Christs at work in the first century. there was a lot going on at the time in this respect.

That is very true.  It is also interesting that we see the same thing going on in the age we live in.  It seem like you hear about a new "second coming" nut-job almost every week.

Beyond the Bible, Josephus is the most interesting book i've ever read.

While there are those today that would set themselves up as deity, i do not believe it is a complete parallel to the events of the first century.    I believe these were the days of prophetic fulfillment and the desctruction of the temple foretold in Matthew 24 and elsewhere.

Anyone who hasn't read Josephus should take the time to do so, if not the entire book, at least from the point where the sacrifice to Caeasar was no longer made in the temple and destruction at the hands of themselves and the Romans.

At the same time Eleazar, the son of Ananias the high priest, a very bold youth, who was at that time governor of the Temple, persuaded those that officiated in the Divine service to receive no gift or sacrifice for any foreigner. And this was the true beginning of our war with the Romans; for they rejected the sacrifice of Caesar on this account; and when many of the chief priests and principal men besought them not to omit the sacrifice, which it was customary for them to offer for their princes, they would not be prevailed upon.   Josephus.  W 2.17.2  408-410

Cullen, welcome to the forum, and thank you very much for your insightful comments.

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. -Matthew 22:37-39
