Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. -Matthew 22:37-39

Please answer the following questions with the word "yes" or the word "no". That's all I'm asking for.I'm not interested in sermons.

Are you saying that loving one another and all the subsidiary doctrines would not have been worth putting into practice if Jesus had stayed dead?

1Co 15:32  If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to morrow we die.

Would everything He had taught have become false if He had stayed dead?
1Co 15:17  And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

that is one of the saddest things I have ever heard. ::vsad::

after all He did for us, you truly feel His teachings would be worthless if He didn't physically rise from the dead?

When Jesus died his disciples went into hiding because they still did not fully understand what Jesus was telling them. It wasn't until Jesus rose from the tomb and disciples were able to receive the anointing of the Holy Spirit when their eyes became open. This is just my opinion, but chances are that if Jesus did not rise from the tomb as He said he would ans as the prophets of past had preached the disciples may not have spread the teaching of Jesus and maybe they would not be with us today. The true God does not lie, He is always the same, yesterday, today and in the future and he prooved that through the shedding of blood.

Maybe I should ask if any other Christians here agree that there would have been no point in preaching the doctrines Jesus taught if he had remained dead.

In the long run, there would not.  It is by His death and Resurrection that we are saved.

Everything.

If I thought your statement had something to do with my question I wouldn't still be asking.
Let me try again, then, for your sake and for the sake of those who don't understand.  As usual, I do not aim to insult or presume to judge.

The important issue here is that Jesus, as the Son of God, came to be the Sacrificial Lamb, so that through Him we may live eternally.  Never in the history of the earth has such a phenomenal act of grace and love taken place.  So, to degrade this act of mercy by merely concentrating on the message Jesus gave is bordering on blasphemy, don't you think?  How can one accept the message but reject the Messenger?  Many great teachers have shown us throughout history how important it is to love our fellow man.  How then is Jesus' message different in this respect?  Hardly.  So the important thing to focus on is His sacrifice, is it not?  Is eternal life through belief in Him not an important differentating factor?

Try to look at it this way:  If a person who has never heard the Gospel but through the love of God and Holy Spirit lives according to the golden rule, then God might give him every chance of eternal salvation, correct?  But what about the person who lives scrupulously according to the golden rule, and despite hearing about the Gospel on a daily basis, steadfastly rejects Jesus as the only begotten Son of God; how do you think God will judge this person?

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. -Matthew 22:37-39

If I thought that was THE important issue I would not be asking any questions.

Jesus' message is different because it is God's Word. If we do not obey we are rejecting Jesus and His Father.

I disagree that the important thing is to focus on Jesus' sacrifice. To me, that is trying to get an eternal reward while, at the same time, telling Jesus we are not interested in doing the work, living the lives, He told us to.

What about "obedience"? Don't Christians want to DO what Jesus told them to do?

Salvation is by grace and grace alone, we can't be obedient enough to earn salvation.  Once saved we do (or should) desire to do God's will.  That said we can not get salvation by doing God's will.

Eph 2:8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9  Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Joh 14:15  If ye love me, keep my commandments.

I think the following verses do a great job of summing up salvation:

1. Romans 3:10  As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

2. Romans 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

3. Romans 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

4. Romans 10:9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Romans 10:10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Romans 10:11  For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Romans 10:12  For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
Romans 10:13  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

The resurrection of Jesus from the dead is everything. The bible say's without that fact we all who accepted the gospel that's states that fact would still be dead in our sins. The Apostle Paul dedicated an entire chapter in 1 Corinthians 15 to the power and hope and purpose of the resurrection. It is ESSENTIAL to the Christian faith.

Jesus said, "Take heed that no one deceives you."

Matthew 24:4
