Are we in the last days?

But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power.

Sure seems like it to me. Not sure how deep the depravity will go though.

That description could applied to many times and places. If you couple that description with some of the other factors related to the last days mentioned in the Bible it would seem that we are drawing near.

Is "near" one year, five years, tens years, etc.? I don't know.

Your right, that description could apply to many times and places. The key here that I see Paul making to the saints is that the perilous times will become consistent and increase in degree. This is like when Jesus spoke of the times of trouble coming upon Israel and the world as compared to a women giving birth. Gradual pains increasing contractions and then birth. These attributes of sinful man will spread to a global scale rather than simply localized examples as the return of Jesus nears. Children will become disobedient to parents and mankind will become so focused on self, money, power and control.

Jesus said, "Take heed that no one deceives you."

I agree.  My first thought when reading that was that it applied to Rome, Genghis Khan, Nazi Germany, and Polynesian Cannibals all at once.

The end has been predicted many times in the past, but here we still are.  Of course that's flawed logic and is similar to saying, 'My arm has never been broken, so it is unbreakable."

That said, I understand your sentiments.  The world is becoming a very crowded, very violent, and very dangerous place. Nuclear proliferation, Overpopulation. Pollution. Gang War. Terrorism. Hedonism.  Just about every other "ism" there is.

But I still see light at the end of the tunnel.

We are close to cracking the secrets of the Universe which could both solve our energy problems and allow us to spread out to the solar system.

We have solved many of the millenia-long problems of health and disease.

We are more educated and more in touch with each other all over the planet than ever in history.

There is still hope for mankind.  The only problem facing us is "Can we solve the final problems before we annihilate ourselves?"

Or to put it in idiomatic form:  "Can we reach the end of the tunnel before we collapse in the dark?"

I believe we can.::thumbs::

"We are close to cracking the secrets of the Universe which could both solve our energy problems and allow us to spread out to the solar system."

The only way to know how close is close is knowing the distance of the destination.

One of the problems in defining "close" is we're not sure of the distance to the destination. We peel back a layer believing it is the last layer only to find that there are multiple layers that were hidden from view and didn't know they existed.

Another issue is that the "big discover" not only has the potental for tremendous blessing but tremendous curse, unintended consequences that could lead to disaster. A new source of energy and power that could be used to uplift by some but used by others to bring down.

As I would love to join the "optimism for mankind" club. The bible indicates a completely different outcome and future. We are told by Jesus that there will be a time when Israel will say, "Peace and Safety" but then sudden destruction comes immediately after. Jesus tells us that the "love of many will grow colder and colder." Mankind will have days of temporary achievements...but in the final analysis, (Rev 21:1)...the earth and heavens will pass away to make way for a new heaven and new earth in which Jesus will reign!

Amen

i believe that we are in the last days, and i am expecting the church to wake sometime soon and to start being the salt and light that Christ told us we are. right now the church is a laughingstock.

Well then, to take a pessimistic approach:  What's the difference?

If it is indeed the Last Times, then the best that any man can do is what we are already doing, be a good friend, neighbor, and Christian. Try to live your life according to the commandments and be as devout a human being as possible.

Enjoy the gift of life in Christ and the rest will solve itself.

Or is that still optimistic?

I guess believing in Christ as I do, nothing really gets me down, even the end of the world.

saint that is noble advice and i agree with u. i tend to get a bit upset with the church largely because WE have been given so much and are seated as kings and priest in God, but most of us still act like slaves.

I agree. That's the BEST we can do.

I find this site to be credible enough to post it. It is very interesting to say the least regarding current events and connections to biblical end time prophesy.

View with discernment of course. :bigwink:

I also feel we are in the last days, but how long it'll be before Christ returns isn't known to me (nor anyone else, for that matter). I also feel it'll continue getting worse, as the Bible tells us, until He comes to redeem us. Until then, we have solace in Him, no matter how bad it gets.

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. -Matthew 22:37-39
