Well these are made only in the philippines and they will not export them saying that it's part of their culture (I asked that question cause i wanted one to have in the US) these jeepneys are very colorful and many filipino familes own these jeepneys and use them to make a semi good living transporting people from one place to another Some are privately owned and used for family gatherings, hauling cargo, ETC... Here is a link so you can read more about this odd hybrid http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/jeepney a pic from wikpedia of a philippine jeepney

These jeepneys were made tough and can handle just about anything the island can toss at it, the weather in the philippines would ruin a good paintjob with the salt air, water and heat plus the pollution which causes acid rain But somehow the paintjobs on the jeepneys hold up to all that i gather they put some chemical in the paint to make it resist those and being made of chome the cars will not rust easy The jeepneys have strong support springs for the rough and potholed filled backroads of the philippines, and many filipinos don't use the main roads to avoid traffic jams, it was nothing unusual to see 5 jeepneys filled with people bumping along the backroads heading to a small town or a large city I rode in many jeepneys and found the ride most uncomfortable on rough roads not to say the jeepneys swaying made me car sick, and bouncing down a rough pothole filled road didn't help matters So i used the vans which we rented and i tried the tricycles but never did really like those on rough roads not enough supports springs and you felt each hole and bump

![]() Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up worn out screaming what a ride.. |

Well the jeepney is a unusual transport but it's design is made to withstand the harsh climate and roads of the philippines, i've seen these jeepneys go places that i highly doubt many cars would even dare, over huge pothole filled roads, they are big polluters but that's cause of the disel oil fuel they run on. But the filipinos are proud of the jeepneys cause they are part of the filipino culture and are built in the philippines

Rode in many of them on Liberty Call while in port .Definatly are cool to look at and ride on. Damn Cops also rode Motorcycles with sidecars.Night before we were to leave port...went out on the town and lost track of time.Curfew was midnight.12:30....I'm running thru the backroads to get back to base.Damn if I dont run right past the Cop Shop. They take to the chase with the sidecar setup and hit me with a baton on the leg to drop me,...lock me up,...throw a hooker in the cell with me(want to see if I still have any cash on me) and aint gonna let me out 'till I bribe them or her. Needless to say,...I was broke,..staying in lockup until after my Unit is out to sea and takes a Roll Call and I aint there. They start calling around and find me at the Cop Shop and come all the way back for me. Lost a Strip for that stunt and would'nt let me out to play at the next Port. Also,..while in Subic Bay and in the town of Olongapo(sp?),...while out on the town drinking and bar hopping...I have to say that the live bands in those clubs were so good sometimes,..you would swear you were listening to the real American bands playing it. ZZ Top,Bob Segar,....I aint lying,...they were that good!

Those are incredibly cute vehicles. If they were available for export, I would insist on a traditional paint job. I saw similar paint jobs on buses in Mexico. Glorious! Sure, the neighbors would complain but who can be unhappy in a Jeepney?

Oh yes the live bands i know of a band that formed while i was living in the philippines My wife's cousin and two of her friends were members of the band and they could really rock They played at a place in lucena city called dicks diner, they tried their best to get me and rina to manage the band which we refused saying that we weren't able to manage a band right They did give us a photo of all the members of the band and signed it for us as a gift The jeepney for some odd reason made me car sick and gather that i couldn't stand the sway of the jeepney on the road while in the back of the car The philippines will never export those cars they say it's part of the culture and they aren't willing to give up that piece of their culture But my wife likes the jeepney cause she used to ride it to her highschool and back
