I just couldn't mess up Shiro's beautiful car thread by adding this nomination for ugly car of the century:



The Volvo 122S

My father had two of them (one replaced / rebuilt the other) when I was growing up.

It had a really long stroke 4 cylinder engine that gave it great torque, even in snow.

If it weren't ugly enough, my father "repainted" the one he had (not the one pictured, and, unfortunately depending on your view, no pictures exist) with a roller brush.  In his defense, he was probably in his mid to late 70s at the time.  The only upside to the ugly enhancing paint job is that no one would steal  the car.

I would buy a cheap one if happened upon.

The only car uglier than the Volvo 122 was the Volvo 544:



I remember my brothers trying to get me to buy one of these for like $100 when I was too young to drive....

It was a bit... err... more used than the one in the pic.
