I found this article on HowStuffWorks.com. Apparently some folks at Google (yes the search engine) are funding a study to determine how cars can be made to increase their gas mileage. The article is rather long, and has pictures and links, which is why I am posting the link.

I don't feel it would be too hard at all for a car to get 100 mpg. Over 15 years ago I bought a new 1992 Honda Civic DX with a 1.5 liter engine, and got over 50 mpg on the highway driving 55 mph. Today I drive a Fiat from the late 70s and it gets over 40 mpg, so 100 mpg isn't such a stretch. I think it's merely a matter of weight - lower the weight and you're going to be able to get 100 mpg with today's technology. The fact is, however, that consumers prefer heavier cars because they're safer.
From time to time I've read about or heard about some technology that the US Army used in WWII to allow Patton's vehicles to get outstanding mileage, especially in his desert campaign against Rommel. I'd like to know some more specifics about this, as well as why such a technology isn't feasible. Or was this story just bogus? What does Snopes have to say about it? From what I remember reading some technical article from a car magazine about 10 years ago, I think the alleged "secret" had something to do with heating the fuel/air mixture before ignition but after mixing. Has anyone heard of this?
Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. -Matthew 22:37-39

I just did a search at snopes, and did not see anything. But, it does not mean there is nothing there about this.

With price of gas constantly going up I would say they better find a way to go more miles on a gallon of gas or we will driving scooters that do. Last edited on 08:13 pm by CARLA
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up worn out screaming what a ride..
