Currently I have a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix (GTP, supercharged)

Have Drag raced at legal tracks.

Best 1/4 mile time is 12.99 secs ( car not running properly, no excuse)

Anyone else do this as a fun sport?

This is great!    I live for Drag Racing and find so few people who also like it.   I grew up in the muscle car era and drag racing was a HUGE part of my teen years.  I will certainly enjoy talking with others on this new thread.

I grew up in St. Louis and back in the late 60's there was a street called Hall St.  It was actually a 4 lane blacktop behind several trucking buisnesses and was used as a trucking lane for loading and unloading.

Once the businesses closed, we kids took over.  It was nothing to see cars lined up for blocks.  You raced whomever happended to be next to you.  We'd go for hours.  The cops would show up once or twice a night and open the hydrant and wet the strip down.  We'd leave, wait for it to dry and be back within an hour or so.  We'd race until the wee hours of the morning.  It was one of the sweetest times of my life.

Every car had music blaring and to this day, let me hear The Rascals singing Good Lovin and I'm back on Hall Street all those years ago.

The cars were the best and the boys that drove them were even better!  It was a vertible smorgasbord for a teenage girl.

What a great time.  Now, we go to the Strip and watch others race.  No quite as much fun, but still one of our favorite things to do.

The loss of Eric Medlen was hard and we are still feeling that one.

Sounds like the good old days (when we were young!!!)

We have a blast going to the track (Cayauga, ONT) We usually get about 6 or more PPL to race at the track. Race each other or whatever happens to line up against us...

Our  cars do surprise alot of PPL.

Anybody else watch Ashley Force whoop her Daddy in Atlanta?  Too kewl.  Oh, the season is starting.  May 12th...Thunder Nationals.  I can't wait.  I love everything about it.  The sounds of finely tuned engines, the smell of rubber, the shimmer in the air from burning nitro.  Best of all....the gorgeous sight of men with fine butts leaned over the engine of a fast car.  It don't get any better than that.

yea she did!! And guess what,, We were there,, saturday when she beat capps, and Sunday.. Was killer!!!!!!! We love NHRA Racing. I have friends that race in the AMA Prostar events. They come to Commerce in the end of march, beginning of April. They were in Virginia this weekend, but we already had tickets for Summer Nationals.. Some wild rides over the weekend.
My Wife had never been to a track before in her life till last year. And this year was her first NHRA event. The Top Fuel just blew her away,, She is a nitro freak like me now..
I broke her in on Larry "Spiderman" McBrides top fuel bike (her first smell of Nitro up close and personal) We were in the camp when they test fired the motor. I moved back about 40ft and she asked where she should stand, I told her right up at the bench, you'll love it.. LMAO.. I am so bad...  She came out after about 2 minutes eyes watering, and coughing a little. But she loved it. She got a set of sparkplugs out of his bike, and a shirt signed by larry. The NHRA is bad as all get out. but the AMA PRostar is not as busy, and the guys will take a little more time with ya.. Just on 2 wheels instead of 4.. And nothing like watching a bike on 2 wheels (ok,, some of the time) running a 6.04 1/4 mile... WOW..

I envy you!  Your wife and I would get along great.  It's not often I find other women who love Drag Racing.  I am addicted to the smells and sounds.  My hubby and I attend the Nationals in Indy.  What a great time.  You are a lucky man that she forgave your little joke! :D  Shows what a good sport she must be.

It's nitro all the way for me.  Once you've experienced that, the pro-stocks seem like granny cars.  Although, I must admit I have a real fondness for street rods.  Old Muscle is my absolute favorite and I cut my teeth in the 60's riding along with sweet boys while they raced on the streets.  Those were some of the sweetest times of my life.  I married the cutest boy with the fastest car.  I know a winner when I see it.::inlove::

Drag racing is my prefered motor sport, sadly not enough available over here in  the UK.  It is a long, long time since I have been able to attend a meet; would jump at the chance to go again!

I've wondered if Drag Racing was popular in the UK.  Are there any strips at all?  What do they race?

Indy Huh,, Wanna see some fast, bad bikes.. Check out amaprostar This is where my wife got her experience with nitromethane up close and personal. Check out larry "Spiderman" McBride on his top fuel bike. Low 6's high 5's in the 1/4 mile. Tickets are generally a heck of alot cheaper then NHRA,, and the excitement is awesome. Not as much power as the top fuel dragsters or Funny cars,, but something about 6 seconds on 2 wheels ya know?

My last muscle car was a 1972 Vette. Sold it 2 years ago.. Before I've had 70 Road Runner 440 4spd.,, 70 aar Challanger 440 auto,, (can ya tell I liked Mopar in my younger days.) Both were bad as all get out. The Challenger beat my Road Runner hands down. I lost the fiberglass scoop at 145mph with the RR chasing me (my brother driving it) and still had pedal left. Only thing it wouldn't pass was a gas station.. LOL

Sue loves Nitro,,, she is hooked.. Glad to hear there are more woman that like them.. I seen alot of single  guys in the stands, and can tell ya, most wished their wife enjoyed the races as much as my wife did.

I love Mopars too.  They are my Muscle Car of choice although I do profess a fondness for GTO's.  I was watching a car auction this past Saturday.  Muscle with Hemi's were going for over $250,000.  Can you imagine?  I think they rolled off the lot at well under $3000 new.  Oh, how I wish we'd held onto ours......Hindsight is 20/20

I've never been to a drag race. I've been to one NASCAR race, in Talledega, about 13 years ago, and it was simply awesome - the sound of those engines running around the track was almost hypnotizing. I guess I don't have much time to be a spectator; I love driving, however.

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. -Matthew 22:37-39

I used to drag race at a track (and on the street) in the late '60s and early '70s. It was fun, but expensive, so I had to quit. I managed to turn a very nice Chevelle into shredded wheat on the strip ::blush::
