Last year I heard of the following incident:

Two detailers who'd been fired went back to the dealer they used to work for and thought it would be fun to joyride in one of the new cars that night. They went in back, got keys, and drove a car around for a while. The car was reported stolen while they were gone because a store employee noticed them leaving. They borught the car back after the joyride and parked it in the back lot, so an employee close the security gate behind them to keep them from leaving again. The two found a car that had just been traded in and took off in it, leaving through a back gate because they still had the security code.

Within minutes the dealer got a call from the local police asking if they had another car stolen. The police explained that they found a car crashed at the closest freeway onramp and that there were two dead men on the freeway. The two crashed the car and decided it would be a good idea to run across the freeway to escape. They made it across the northbound lanes and hopped the barrier into southbound traffic. Upon leaping over the barrier both were hit by a truck doing about 80 mph. The police said there wasn't any way to identify them from photos because they were in pieces.

Here's another incident from last week:

A dealer employee "borrowed" a car from the dealer to go to see his probation officer. Unfortunately for him, the car had been reported stolen earlier (and had been recovered but not reported as such). Another problem for him was that he parked it illegally. Yet another problem was that he had meth in the car when police arrested him. The moral of the story is, do not steal a car to go see your probation officer, especially one that was reported stolen, if you are going to carry drugs and park illegally.

Since he didn't die he isn't a Darwin Award candidate, but I think he's a winner for "stupid is as stupid does". :bravo:

Close-- they were crossing the 5 less than a mile southeast of the 55.

They were trying to steal from the Tustin Auto Center, and they crashed the car right at the onramp to the northbound I-5 at Tustin Ranch Rd (they only got a couple hundred yards).
