Very cool - I dig old bottles. Any of them special in any way? How old is the oldest do you think?

How is it that you are able to dig in Chinatown area? I would have thought

there would be tons of "governmental oversight" at the very least...

I have a bunch, maybe one of these times I'll try and get hubs to post a

pic, I dug them years ago, came across an old "kitchen dump" lucky me.

the chinatowns moved several times. they were needed for labor, but the general population did'nt want them living nearby. so as the city got larger the chinese got moved to other locations. so this left us with several areas to investigate.

Oh I realize that, I guess what I'm really curious about is the legality aspect,

how is it these go to a private collector? Usually it's historical societies or

whatever... you know, stop construction and get pros out there and then

ship it off to a museum or something...

The last pics look like ink wells maybe 1930 and later

medicine bottles. The ribbed one looks like a tonic(hair, skin) lotion bottle, the brown ones look like I don't know where the heck is my book!

Kinda funny how alot of school's still used the ink wells even into the 40's depending on what part of the country you were from. Bottles were reused often so its hard to pinpoint an origin point.

It's always fun to have a face of a hill and peel away the layers of time.  The pottery looks 1930ish maybe the turn of the century when those dishes and plates were put out in mass quantities.

.........check out the seam in the neck of some of your bottles. It's not always just the metal you find but the stuff you dig out before or after the "beep" Great finds.::thumbs::
The copper jar looks interesting, does it have a handle? in your first pic. Is there a mark (stamp) on the bottom?
