I was looking at Google Earth, and remembered when I used to walk out to the island at low tide.....Lots of old brick from when the mill was there in the 1870's I believe, it's not very well known...I have never detected there, and am not aware of anyone ever detecting there.....The last time I was there in the 70's, it was literaly covered in bones from turtles and animals...

Just remind him about the last time he didn't make a trip you offered (I am thinking of that tale you told recently) - he'll snap right up!

LOL.....Yes. This place it covered in old English brick. In the 1870's through 1890's it was a cypress planing mill. The old railroad bed is just barely visible, and you have to go at low tide, or you risk being stranded in the marshes, or worse at high tide...If you have downloaded Google Earth  (I highly recommend for people that Metal Detect) do a search for Cypress Mill, Brunswick, Ga....and then go east to the river and it's that small island out there...

Maybe we can get together a group of us and go check it out...I'll guarantee it'll be an experience, even if the finds are scarce....It's so forgotten and off the beaten path, that the odds are we will find something.......It's a lot like our ballast islands, covered in english flint rock.

Yes, absolutely.  I'm up for an expedition, and off this weekend, to boot!

Gimme a call.

Google Earth is certainly a useful TH-ing tool, ain't it?

I have to work Saturday.....Suday I am off, maybe we can see what we can do then. Here is the tide chart for that area on Sunday:

Su 8 High 3:40 AM 6.9 6:28 AM Rise 1:11 AM 47
8 Low 10:03 AM -0.3 8:33 PM Set 2:46 PM
8 High 4:16 PM 7.8
8 Low 10:47 PM 0.8

Looks like around 10:00 AM is the time to set out....and start back around 4:00 PM or so.

My wife and daughter will be in Atlanta for the weekend.

Strangely, I happen to be off Friday/Saturday/Sunday of this week.  (Not sure how that happened, but I ain't complainin'!)

I'm up for an outing, even in the steamy humidity.
