while diving i've seen a few (very few!) old wooden ribs of shipwrecks. i know some sort of bacteria eat the wood. so how did the "MARY ROSE" survive? cold water? what? Welcome to the Mary Rose The Mary Rose - Henry VIII's warship. This site covers all aspects of the Mary Rose, her history, the project to raise her, her conservation and display.

Most likely cold water kept the bacteria from attacking the wood and that is why the wood is in such good shape

I love reading about the Mary Rose. And the Vasa, too.
