lincoln was clearly at least Bisexual but........:dunno:

He seemed to be a great man, with a noble conscience and sense of honour and fairness.

As far as American presidents go, he could be rightfully considered as one of the finest.

Abraham is my second cousin.  The Lincolns (Abraham's brother) married the Whites, the Whites married the Slinkmans and the Slinkmans married the Ives.

He wasn't gay, he was married and he loved his wife dearly.  When his favorite son was stricken with a respiratory infection during the Civil War and died, Mary was never the same.

Since he had great plans for a reconciliation and reconstruction of the South, he would have been remembered as even greater than he is today.

Because he died, carpet-baggers took advantage of the poor and the unfortunate casualties of war, creating an everlasting hatred of the North that survives to today.  The KKK ran rampant and it took decades for the South to recover.

Lincoln would have prevented all that.

Ah Saint...........................some of my SECOND cousins are still alive!  How can that be?::scratch::

"Second", in this context, refers to the distance between the families, not the generations.  What Saint didn't say is how many generations removed he was from Lincoln.  That's not possible to tell without looking at the family tree and seeing how many biological generations separate them.  Let's just say, "several times removed".

But it sounds to me like third cousins, rather than second cousins.

Lincolns married Whites
Whites married Slinkmans
Slinkmans married Ives

Am I counting wrong?

I don't know Brian, but when someone says second cousin, I tend to take them at their word.  It just doesn't make sense to me the way you explained it either.

when i was a kid i went to Ford's theater where he was shot while viewing 'our American cousin'. and across the street to the room where he died, his blood was preserved on the pillow. my neighbor was an elderly lady we called 'muddy', her name was Mudd, related to dr. Mudd who treated john wilkes booth's broken leg. dr. Mudd spent his life incarcerated in a prison island off key west, fort jefferson. unfairly.

I didn't mean to imply Saint wasn't telling it straight.  I just was trying to understand the relationship.  "Second cousins" are (I think) cousins separated by two marriages.  Maybe I'm not thinking about that part right.

The "removed" part comes from how many generations apart they are.  So, for instance, someone 3 generations older or younger would be 3 times removed.

I just read a story in U.S. news or Time that talked about if Lincoln was shot in this day & age would he be saved, He would have lived. But only if he was shot with the same bullet from the same gun, it was interesting. And sad, but I have to say he was one ugly, dude. But that never fazed him. He was meek but strong in his Ideas, he had a weak wife that badgered him with silly crap until he died and after.....I have often wondered what he could have become without her.

by all contemporaneous accounts Mary Todd Lincoln was mentally ill, or at the very least severely depressed. but he was infinately kind to her.

From what I understand, even by today's standards of medicine, Lincoln wouldn't have served out his term.  He would've lived, but he would've been incapacitated.  By the standards of the day, we might have even had to deal with Mary Todd running the show.  ::shock::::help:::wtf:

Abe Lincoln himself suffered from severe bouts of depression.

It can't be.  It is physically and biologically impossible to be second cousins with a man who died 130-some years ago.  Not remotely possible. I stand by my previous assertion of despising liars.

This is typical of UsedtoRide.  I've known her in other forums and she was just as rude, abrasive, and unlikeable there.  Basically since her own life is in the dumpster, she wants to be mean to everyone else.   But since I know her whole sordid story (alcohol, prison, murder, etc.), I really don't hate her.  I just feel sorry for her.

Brian has it right.  I get confused with the whole "generational thing."  My uncle annouced to the family about two years ago that he had confirmed that we were related to the Lincoln's through Abraham's brother.  He most likely said "twice removed" and I got it wrong.

It was a source of pride to my family and we are all very honored and humbled to be related to him.

Saint..............I can't believe you just did what you did.  I've NEVER seen anyone in this forum "publicly" tell any personal information about ANYONE!   I too know personal things about members, and no matter how much they up set me in a thread, I WOULD NEVER SAY ANYTHING PERSONAL ABOUT THEM IN A POST!  This is in creatable............I can't believe Frank would allow this!

Hey, Fox.  Thanks for that.  The personal attack from a keyboard doesn't mean any more to me than a piece of lint on my shirt.  That poster is beneath me, a publicly proven liar, and nothing he says or assumes about me means any more to me than a fart in the wind.  Perhaps now I will just go hang out with the Gin Blossoms and see what they think about this.  (I know you don't understand that part, but the people who do understand know just what I mean.)

It is odd, though. Last time someone got personal like that, they ended up getting banned.  ::scratch::

Try to find less obnoxious ways to disagree with people in forums that don't want any part of that type of exchange.  PM sent.
