There has to be a first of anything.  And in 1962 Rochester, NY became the home to Midtown Plaza..the nation's FIRST urban enclosed shopping mall. It also boasted a skywa, connecting it to other downtown buildings, underground parking garage and a tunnel system, also connecting it to the rest of downtown.

In recent years, Midtown Plaza has seen an extreme down grade, with businesses and offices closing and no one moving in to take their place.

Yesterday it was announced that Paetec  has plans to purchase the property, demolish the plaza and build their corporate headquarters there. This is a provider of communication services for broadband and other internet services.

There are many memories attached to this plaza , including its many stores, the Clock of Nations a fountain and Christmas monorail.

I will include more info as I get it.

I hate it when an old house or a site gets demolished. It's kinda like someone died.

::wait::Why it is so beautiful, they should just leave it alone.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up worn out screaming what a ride..

Yes it was, back in the day.  Sadly, it is no where near what it was back 20 or more years ago.  There are just a small handful of businesses there, those that did move in, were closed within months.

They are starting a rennesance square project downtowm. in hopes of bringing it back.  In the buildings that surround the plaza, and the plaza itself, there is 95% vacancy
