Please give some evidence, outside the realm of Hollywood conjecture ? Obviously you have seen and watched the "hollywood" version and taken it hook , line and sinker ! How unbecoming of an "anti establishment", "outsider" such as yourself ! The "masonic conspiracy!" horseshit is part of popular culture thanks to a films like "In Hell" a film version of a graphic novel, NOT reality ! and the Michael Caine version again based on complete conjecture ! But yet again Robo don't let facts and research get in the way of your accepted reality ok ?

There is no support that I have seen for the ideas that Jack the Ripper was a Mason, member of the Royal Family or doctor. I have read about a dozen books on the subject ( I am the first to admit that this does not make me an expert on the Ripper murders, but at least I have seen all sides of the debate and am somewhat informed) and the above ideas have poor support whan all the facts are taken into consideration.

My own view is that the murders were committed by one man, not a "well to do" man all the descriptions describe a short, stocky, pale skinned man wearing a "pea coat" (a long to the knee coat that civilian sailors wore) and a black peaked cap. Not a top hat, or a cloak, or a suit. I think he was a sailor visiting London who probably has a proclivity for this sort of thing. The fact he wasn't caught if of course the central fascination.

The chief inspector on the case said it was a man named James Montague Druitt, a failed lawyer who grew up in the household of a doctor and who had physician brothers. The family ran a clinic on the outskirts of White Chapel. Druitt drowned himself in a pond shortly after the murder of Kelly (the fith and last Ripper murder)with a note that said he was afraid he was going mad like his mother had. WHen the files were finally opened there was great disappointment as much was missing. Regards, Scott

I think the popular image of Jack the Ripper as a rich, famous or upper middle class man of learning is incorrect if you look at the actual witness testimonies of the time and the investigations of the case using more modern methods. For instance the depiction of Jack the Ripper being a tall smartly dressed man carrying some kind of attache/medical case don't fit any of the descriptions that were forwarded at the time of the killings. The general description was that of a small (height descriptions varied between approximately 5'3" and 5'7") stocky man, with a pale complexion but with ruddy cheeks, wearing a long pea coat or heavy overcoat (the descriptions never mention him being particularly well dressed) who wore a dark peaked cap commonly worn by merchant seaman at the time. In essence a man who could disappear into the crowd into what were some of the poorest, roughest areas of London without standing out or drawing attention to himself. He is thought to have used a horse and carriage sometimes as transport, but a merchant seaman, who were often at sea for months at a time, would have months worth of wages burning a hole in his pocket and could easily afford the cost of a carriage. The stories of the ripper offering some of his victims and would be victims "exotic fruits" such as grapes etc to lure them in is a strong possibility, but don't forget merchant seaman would have easy access to cargo holds full to the brim with "exotic fruits" and other expensive and hard to come by items. As for the "methodical dissection" of his victims, this is often a bone of contention among many ripper investigators, some state that the skill shown in some of the murders indicates a medically trained hand. Others insist that a basic knowledge of human anatomy and/or butchery would have been sufficient to commit these "dissections". The murders had as many unsimilar elements as similar that I think indicate that the idea of the murders being committed by more than one person is a definite possibility. I'll keep an eye out in my "travels" LOL. I really haven't thought much about this for a long time, to many things dealing with living flesh that bother me today...
