 In a different thread, a member suggested that people of low intelligence or those deemed "unfit" be sterilized or exterminated. This member is known for making such inflammatory statements. (Thank God he is not serving in public office!) It is unequivocally wrong to state disability is a condition warranting sterilization or (God help us!) extermination. The disabled teach us compassion, a quality desperately needed by humanity. Among the elderly, in particular, disability is statistically common. Should we advocate killing grandma and grandpa because they are no longer "fit"?I believe it is important to note that "all kinds of disabilities happen to all types of people at all stages of their 'normal' lifecycles." This statement was written by Robert L. Metts, Ph.D., a leading advocate for the disabled throughout the world. In his statement "Planning for Disability (1998)," he advises families and governments to "plan" for the likelihood of disability. Metts survived polio and is a disabled person himself, thus he knows intimately the challenges of living as a disabled person. Disability can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time. "Disabilities can occur at conception as a result of coincidental occurrences in the uterus. They can even be predetermined long before conception through the genetics of parents. Once born, all human beings are then subject to a myriad of disabling possibilities for the rest of their lives. And, for those of us lucky enough to reach old age, disability actually does become common, in addition to normal." -Robert L. Metts, Ph.D. This life is designed to teach us love, compassion, forgiveness and patience. To advocate destruction of persons deemed "unfit" is absolutely barbaric and smacks of the Nazi regime and their extermination policies. Every one of us knows someone living with a disability. Instead of despising the disabled, we must assist them and, in the process, help ourselves. We learn nothing of the love of Christ if we promote death. More importantly, any one of us could become disabled due to illness, accident, or hidden genetics. If you are interested in reading Robert L. You well know what I mentioned, Britt. It was inbred stuff like pinheads and others born totally unfit to survive without continuous nurses care paid for by taxpayers. I'm disabled, too, but mine is from service to my country in combat. The Lakota Indians (my Godfather was a pure bred Sans Arc who actually flew B-17s over Germany in WWII) would take deformed babies off to the side and say a prayer for their return to the circle of life, from being eaten by predators. They would take care of their honored warriors, though. As humans evolved, they were this way, and warfare would only allow the strongest and smartest warriors to survive to mate with only the most desirable women. Behavior disorders were dealt with harshly. The Utes would think seven generations ahead of the consequences of their actions and decisions. These ways of life were what was necessary to have the natural world we live in sustain them. There was balance between the people and the water, soil, trees, and animals. Bodies were put up on poles for the birds to eat, or shallow buried for worms to eat. Their population was kept in check by harsh living, sometimes diseases or other predators, and by warfare. They were wise, the old ones of tribes around the world long ago. There was no over-compassion, but there was compassion. There was no over-tolerance, but there was some tolerance. They lived sustainably, and if humanity is to survive, their ways and wisdom must be relearned to the extent necessary for this long term habitat carrying capacity at an acceptable living standard. They never were 9 trillion in debt, or grossly overpopulated. I may appear to be a white man, but I am a red man in my heart, and a black man when I play guitar! All American, Yowza!!! I'm going to step in here if I may and I'm sure I too will get blasted, but I don't think you people are really HEARING moguitars full meaning. Have you looked at this man's Military Record? Did you not hear what he's said about how he feels about humanity? I think you're confusing REALITY and COMMON SENSE with not thinking or caring. What do all of you feel is the answer for our world becoming too full to sustain human needs? I suppose all women who want to sleep with a man and become pregnant is fair game for our system. moguitars not talking about killing people like Hitler did. It seems to me that the real non thinkers are making comments before much thought process. I've commented in one of these threads how I felt about people I see on the streets dragging their children behind them without shoes, having soars all over them, no shoes or socks on their 4 or 5 kids, and cigarettes hanging out of the parents mouthes as their walking down the street, heading for the Welfare Office! It makes me sick! These people have no business having children. Same for the mothers who are doing illegal drugs! AND I'll go the step farther and say I think all women should be tested for deformed and severally handicap fetuses. If they aren't normal...........abort. How many of you have studied and witnessed human survival? How many of you have endangered you own life over 900 times to save fellow humans? It's easy to sit in your chair and make your statements. They don't however, sound as intelligent and compassionate as you think......................

I think the way he expresses himself and his knowledge could be "scary" until you really listen. I feel the same way as far as putting a stop on humans breeding like rabbits!  I also feel the people he was describing in the "other thread" should not have been allowed to be born. Did you hear the decription's of those people? For someone to jump in and say he's talking about a person who has trouble standing, is sad! There's a line to be drawn, and a limit to how much humans can do without wiping us out! I believe most people here have at some time seen a person who they actually didn't think should have a child. The only difference is, they won't admit it.......................

You are usually such a loving and compassionate soul, and I frankly did not expect this from you. I can only imagine that your statement comes from a point of frustration and pain? If you really considered the consequences of your belief that all deformed and severely handicapped fetuses should be aborted, I do not think you would repeat this sentiment again. I'll give you three reasons you are wrong: 1. If your wishes were followed, Stephen Hawking would not be alive. He was born with a disabling disease, Lou Gehrig's disease, which has led to significant impairment and deformity. Yes, if his parents had ordered genetic counseling, they would have known of his deformity and done the right thing: Aborted him. Never mind his contributions to the fields of cosmology and quantum gravity. Such a person should be dead.  2. Oh, and let's put out a contract on Jean Driscoll, an Olympian born with spina bifida. She is a seven-time winner of the Boston Marathon, setting world records in five of those races. She set a world record in the 10-kilometer race last year, and won silver medals in 800-meter events at the 1992 and 1996 Olympics, as well as two gold medals, one silver and one bronze at the 1996 Paralympics. But she should have been exterminated.  3. The candidate for abortion most dear to my heart, of course, is my grandson. Born with a deformity in his heart and an omphalacele, he clearly has no reason to live. He is bright and charming, an absolute joy, but in light of the sorry lives Stephen Hawking and Jean Driscoll have lived, I am sure his life is a waste. Really, when the genetics specialist discovered his heart defect, my daughter should have had him exterminated.  I AM GLAD I DO NOT LIVE IN THE WORLD YOU DESIRE. But I love you, anyway.

No matter of military service, military decorations or higher education can convince me that killing the most vulnerable members of society is correct. You cannot convince me. I have family members with more schooling, military decorations and professional accolades than moguitar has in his little finger, and they would never advocate killing innocents. Sorry. I don't buy it.

You, who would sterilize those who don't meet your ideal of perfection, using the word honor is a travesty. I would really suggest you see a licensed therapist about your anti social tendencies before they get the best of you.
