Car on fire crashes into airport

The car was ablaze before crashing into the building

Man 'tackled driver' A car on fire has been driven at the main terminal building at Glasgow Airport, police have confirmed.
Eyewitnesses have described a Jeep Cherokee being driven at speed towards the building with flames coming out from underneath.
They have also described seeing two Asian men, one of whom was on fire, who had been in the car.
Strathclyde Police said four people had been arrested and detained in connection with the incident.
The airport has been evacuated and all flights suspended following the incident at 1515 BST.

There was an Asian guy who was pulled out of the car by two police officers

Richard Gray
Eyewitness
A Whitehall spokesman said the incident was not being treated as a national security threat.
One eyewitness said: "I heard the sound of a car's wheels spinning and smoke coming out.
"I saw a Jeep Cherokee apparently as if it was trying to get right through the doors into the terminal building.
"There were flames coming out from underneath then some men appeared from in amongst the flames.
"The police ran over and the people started fighting with the police. I then heard what sounded like an explosion."
Eye-witness Richard Gray told BBC News 24: "A green Jeep was in the middle of the doorway burning.

Witnesses said the car was driven at the building deliberately
"There was an Asian guy who was pulled out of the car by two police officers, who he was trying to fight off. They've got him on the ground.
"The car didn't actually explode. There were a few pops and bangs which presumably was the petrol."
Dr Rak Nandwani was at the airport building to pick up relatives when he saw a plume of black smoke.
He said: "The whole place has come to a standstill, the terminal building has been evacuated. I have spoken to my relatives and they have been moved to outside the building.
"They were told they could not pick their baggage up from the baggage collection area.
"There must be about 50 police cars at the airport. Me and my son, along with everyone else, have been moved to the car rental area."

The incident happened 1515 BST on Saturday
Taxi driver Ian Crosby said: "This was no accident. This was a deliberate attack on Glasgow Airport."
The reaction of members of the public was not to help the men in the car, but to restrain them, he told the BBC.
Mr Crosby, who said he served in Northern Ireland, told how he shepherded people away from the scene in case of a secondary explosion or a nail-bomb.
Two men, one of whom was reported to be badly burned, were seen being led away in handcuffs.

well i want to keep updating this story...Scottish police news conference says the attempted bombings in London yesterday and this attack are linked. UK officials have raised terror alert to "critical, attack imminent'. one suspect is in custody, one is in critical condition with severe burns. the hospital had to be evacuated for a while because the suspect had a device on him at the hospital! it's a good thing these people are fairly incompetent, or there would have been a lot of casualties. but the fear is they might get 'lucky'.

yeah the scottish parliament of Holyrood is in Edinburgh about 90 miles away from Glasgow where this incident took place, unless the plan was to make the monarchy breath some very wispy second hand smoke from over ninety miles away this had nothing to do with the royal family.

There is no evidence of "terrorism" here so far, "joyriding" - "stealing high performance/high value vehicles driving them around then abandoning them  and setting fire to them" is a prevelant activity of vehicle crime throughout the UK.

I myself record at work numerous occurrences of this particular crime.

My first guess is.....that is what this is.

i didn't mean to imply they were targeting the Queen. but the UK commentators i have heard feel this was a message to Gordon Brown. one of the suspects today was wearing a suicide belt, which is why they evacuated the hospital. and the incidents in London with explosives and nails, joy-riders? (i just heard there have been 2 more arrests.) i am relying on what the Scottish police said today, and i can only repeat what UK news outlets have been reporting.

My thought pattern is following through the fact that two of those arrested are alleged to be doctors; I believe working in hospitals.  The immediate problem is going to be for the hospitals to now cover their caseloads.

Then, as I think about this more, I am wondering about the way we encourage and employ qualified medics from abroad.  Guess it has been made easy for the terrorists to get into the country?

More needs to be done to encourage British people to qualify and fill these positions.  Back to the government needing to sort out the system; IMHO.

He's got 3rd degree burns over ninety percent of his body and is in a critical condition.

A Scottish airport baggage handler saw him running around on fire and punched him the f**k out !

::thumbs::

I think this terrorist cell have been watching too many episodes of Benny Hill.
