when you read about the Battle of Britain.

I've read a number of books about Hitler's Operation Sealion, and every time I read about it I feel like flying the Union Jack, singing "Jerusalem", or buying British war bonds. It must have been a terrifying thing to be the last standing Western foe to fascism as the Nazis threatened, especially when Stalin and Hitler pledged peace to each other.

It must have been terrifying, yes, but from what I've heard and read, there was an incredible sense of community here then, and commitment.

An aunt of mine lived in London during the Blitz and she used to say that people would get up each day and climb over the rubble of the houses that had been bombed the night before, just to walk to work.

I wonder if I'm allowed to quote from a book I have "Backs to the Wall...London under Fire 1940-1945"  I  must check with Frank.

Slightly different topic, in fact I may begin a new thread about it...I was going to ask if anyone here had any stories from friends or family members about the American servicemen who were over here in WW2.

The Nazi's bombed Britain, launched "Doodle bugs" and launched V1 and V2 rockets towards Britain throughout the duration of WW2.

The may have even attempted a landing if some rumours are to be believed that was thwarted.

We did stand as the barrier between Nazi aggression and America for 6 years and stood firm, our American cousins rolled their sleeves up and came over and spearheaded the push against Nazi aggression into Europe and the Japanese threat in the Pacific, without them the result was not viable. And together with our many allies from many different countries we acheived victory.

  We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender !

"Rum, sodomy and the lash" are all the ingredients I need for a great night in LC !

:giantgrin:::sgrin::

The rum is sweet, the sodomy is optional and strictly through adult conscent, the lash however is mandatory !

At least it is when I am "gimp master" !

So you have no understanding of how a "real" FEMALE police officer dressed in full state police uniform would be anything less than THE CENTRE of attention at such a party ?

You would be an A-list guest with a whole host of "participating perps" male and female !saying "officer....I surrender !" ::sgrin::

The job is yours, Pammie...

if you can just avoid garlic in the puddings (and don't mind the virtual rate of pay)
