Man dies in fire at resort hotel Firecrews had to withdraw when part of the hotel collapsed
Building crumbles
A man has died, four people have been injured and six others are missing after a fire at a Cornwall hotel caused part of the building to collapse. Some residents were forced to jump to safety as the blaze swept through the Penhallow Hotel in Newquay.

Eyewitness saw 'fire victim jump' Paul Knight was one of the first on the scene Eyewitnesses have been describing the fire that consumed the Penhallow Hotel on the seafront in Newquay.
Paul Knight is a night security guard at the nearby Reef Hotel and was carrying out a building patrol when he first heard the fire alarm.

"Then I saw the flames and saw loads of people coming out," he said.


Demolition begins at blaze hotel Parts of the building are being demolished to make it safe
Building crumbles Demolition has begun at a Cornwall hotel after a fire in which a man died and four people were injured. Police said fears were growing for six people missing after the blaze at the four-storey Penhallow Hotel in Newquay.
Fire crews had to withdraw when parts of the structure gave way. Police said they thought the man who died had fallen from a second-floor window.
