Boy calls 999 after he's left alone and fire breaks out

A boy of four left home alone was rescued after coolly dialling 999 when a fire broke out.

Chris Jeo Boby is thought to have put food in the microwave then spotted smoke coming from it.

He had insisted on watching TV while his dad drove his mum to work at Aintree Hospital near their Liverpool home.

Chris was taken there by ambulance but was unhurt.

Dad Boby James, 32, said last night: "I am so very proud of Chris. He has never used the phone so I am amazed he knew what to do."

The Asda assistant added: "Chris was only left alone for about 20 minutes. I must stress I did not want to leave him.

"He refused to leave as he wanted to watch his programmes. Reluctantly, I left him. Our son Clement is 18 months and he was with me."

Mum Saumya Boby, 29, said: "He is very well behaved ... we trusted he would be fine."

Fire chief Paul Kay said: "Through calling us, the boy prevented a serious fire. He was incredibly brave but kept his cool."
