Nancy

Good luck with this forum.  My cousin spent several years doing our family history, and got it going back several generations. It was hard because ur was a very common Italian surname it seems.

Thank you Marie. Yes sometimes you can get stuck on common names. I mean which Bill Jones was it, lol.  I have Andersen's from Denmark and the way they do thir names makes it really hard. It  means Anders' son so maybe his dad was Andersen or Anders, lol.

Good luck with you new forum, Nancy!  Very interesting one.  I'd love to track down some relatives who moved to Canada in the early 1900's some day. ::nsmile::

The book my mother gave me goes back to Canada 1640 it's all in French and most records come from the church as they kept good records baptism, marriage, death and births.............I always ask mom to translate alot of stuff. And it reconnects me to my past great stuff! But I have to warn against using maiden names as that may become a security breech on the inter-net. luvdawgs is wise to use PM's.

I don't think giving names will be a security risk. People research via the net every day. I've never had a problem.  I'm not asking for adresses and phone numbers, lol.  If anyone had a one of a kind name I could see a problem but have you ever googled your full name??  Try it sometime. If I google my real name there are 43 pages.

Nice forum idea Nancy!

I would love to know more about my family, our true family name on my father's side and all that! Unfortunately, no one knows, no one talks about it and trying to get info on our family history out of anyone is like asking them to put acid in their veins!

All I know is that our Arab side is Walker but was changed from Wakim I THINK! no one can tell me for certain.

My mom's Italian side is a bit different, we know the real spelling of the name (lol we changed into a veal!) as it was a simple omission of  one letter i think.

Its a shame no one ever got into the family history. Grandma gave me more than anyone on mom's side but since she's gone, I'm out of luck

Some years ago I collated information that other family members had researched.  I had contacted people either through the internet, or other means!

We have between us records dating back to when my Ancestor Andre Poupard (t) escaped from France as a Hugeonot.

Through the local radio (BBC Radio Devon) I have met up with another family member living about 20 miles from me.  I left my family 300 miles away, never dreaming that I would find 'new' family here when I moved!

With regard to the use of maiden names, many web sites use this as a security question so I guess the information could be used by a hopeful hacker!

Yah I guess the maiden names may be an issue but I really only need surnames and first names.

Great idea for a forum.  I have reseached my family history quite a bit, I'll tell you about that when I have more time.
