Those are the feelings of Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the man who Barack Obama selected to marry him, the man who's church Obama has attended for over 20 years and the man to whom Obama gives credit for shaping many of his views. "The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people, God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme." - Jeremiah Wright in 2003 "We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye, We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost." -Jeremiah Wright on 16 Sept. 2001 Sen. Obama declined to comment when asked about these statements.

Declined to comment? Not a good sign! Come on Obama, you seemed like a very upfront, no-nonsense guy ...

Is it the sense of indignation because of Jeremiah Wrights words which actually do make a kind of sense. Or is it because the thought of a black man in the Whitehouse is something so terrible his history should be picked through with a fine tooth comb ? I can't remember any white possible future presidents being examined and scrutinised so closely. Hmmmmmmmmm.................

I was judging by one of the State debates I saw him in. He seemed refreshing, he radiated something more genuine than Hillary or Edwards. They seem fake to me.

cynicalninja wrote: Is it the sense of indignation because of Jeremiah Wrights words which actually do make a kind of sense. It has nothing to do with the color of Obama's skin. You may not recall, but in 2004 John Kerry's military record was looked at very closley. In 2000, the fact that George W. Bush was arrested in the 1970s for drunk driving was a big issue as were some comments by Al Gore about "inventing the internet." The sex lives of Gary Hart and Bill Clinton were big issues in 1988 and 1992. Looking at the lives and records of those who may be president is very important, do you really want us to elect someone who can launch 1000 nuclear warheads on a moments notice and not find out all we can about the first? By all accounts Obama has a close relationship with his pastor, if Obama's pastor is saying things like this I think it is not only fair, but critical to ask if Obama agrees with him. If he does not agree and is offended by statements like this, why has he gone to that church for over 20 years? If my pastor were to say something like that I would stand up in the middle of the service, demand that my name be removed from the membership roll and walk out!

Uh-huh and he still got in there huh ? as were some comments by Al Gore about "inventing the internet." The sex lives of Gary Hart and Bill Clinton were big issues in 1988 and 1992. Yeah the sexual activities of a president are important. One of your best ever presidents JFK was a sexual monk right ? Looking at the lives and records of those who may be president is very important, do you really want us to elect someone who can launch 1000 nuclear warheads on a moments notice and not find out all we can about the first? Yes very important, I think I would trust Obama with the button more than monkey boy bush, or his father, or with reagan a man going through the early stages of alzheimers during the end of presidency.
So Obama may have said/done things 20 years ago he perhaps regrets ?, who can look into their heart and not say the same ?
So you would rather have Hilary or that non-entity Mccain ? Thats what he is, nothing will change with him as president.

Apparently 30-year-old DUI's don't rank up very high on the indignation scale. Go figure. cynicalninja wrote: as were some comments by Al Gore about "inventing the internet." By what possible stretch of fantasy was JFK one of our best presidents ever? Not only did he get us into Vietnam (with a troop death toll that makes Iraq look like a bad fender bender by comparison), but he also allowed the Berlin Wall to be built and created the fiasco that became the Bay of Pigs, and later the Cuban Missile Crisis. Kennedy is a national hero for two reasons: 1) He made a speech about a moon landing. 2) He got shot. cynicalninja wrote: By all accounts Obama has a close relationship with his pastor, if Obama's pastor is saying things like this I think it is not only fair, but critical to ask if Obama agrees with him. The issue isn't what Obama said and did 20 years ago. It's who he's been supporting for 20 years. There's a big difference. I have no idea if Obama has repudiated these comments. If he hasn't, that's a problem.

Ninja, You are trying to shift the issue from your now discredited statement that no other candidate for US president has been examined as close as Obama. I have shown that you are not correct in that regard. I have not said that I think Bush has done a good job or that I care about a president's sex life or any of that. BTW - This is NOT about what Obama may have said or done 20 years ago. He goes to the church where these statements were made NOW. He still goes there, will go there again, perhaps even this coming Sunday and refuses to comment on what he thinks about those statements.

One of your best ever presidents JFK... I would not rank Kennedy is the top third of US Presidents, in fact I believe we would have been much better off had he never been president at all. To his credit he reacted to the Cuban Missle Crisis well and he did cut taxes, but for the most part his record as president was one of failure. There is one reason and one only that he is thought highly of today and that is he was shot! Had it not been for that tragic event he would be ranked where he deserves to be ranked, in the middle third of US presidents.

Go back and check. The United States involvement was before Kennedy.

John McCain is an admitted adulterer, on multiple occasions. These character flaws only become relevant if they belong to a Democrat.

We can all see the way Christian America wants to proceed, it is not with a black president and it is not with a female president Anything other than that is preferable.

Watts run for president as you'll see me supporting him stronger than I have ever supported a white man running for president! It is NOT about the color of the person's skin, it is about what that person stands for, what don't you grasp about that Ninja? Last edited on 03:56 am by Aethelred |
