Funny, I thought people had outgrown being "oh-fended" by words. The whole "sticks and stones" thing. If I think someone is a nigger, I say, "that's a nigger". And it has nothing to do with the color of their skin. Obama = nigger. But you have to remember the politically correct, have tender sensibilities.. And although it was the 80th infantry that liberated Buchenwald and the surrounding area, the camps were for the most part allready abandoned by the Germans, because the Russians had already pretty well overrun them.

Wheels, you must know by now that I point out many of your posts to people who still believe Bikers are ignorant and uneducated and just plain stupid. You do a lot for dispelling that myth, and I thank you for it. I have a bit less tact. I say f**k their tender senibilities.

The Camp aBuchenwald was not in Poland, it was in fact, the very first Nazi established prison and hence in the Alten Reich (Old Germany). It was a labor camp designed to extract the maximum amount of labor from prisoners who were fed just enough to expect to live for four months under camp conditions. German guards surrendered the camp to the Americans. There was nothing at Buchenwald except a single chamber designed to test war gases on human subjects, but there is no hard proof that any such tests were actually undertaken. The rest of the chambers at Buchenwald were for legitimate uses of ZAyklon-B--delousing.. It was in Poland that the death campos were built. First Chelmno using motor vehicles as gas chambers, then Aktion Rhinehardt was initiated to test gassing on a larger scale. Until the Aktion Rheinhardt camps were built extermination was done by mass shootings as at Babi Yar. One can still see the quarterly report filed by the commandant of one of the Einsatz Gruppen, Ernst Jaegar enumerating more than one hundred thousand Russian Jews in five months of operations by Ensatzkommando 3 of Ensatza tzgruppen A, during the first few months of Operation Barbarossa (German invasion of Russia). Jaeger's unit consisted of about 140 men, and one woman's auxiliary. Men were drawn from the SS, the SD, the German Military Police, other police and a handful of translators and radio operators. Shooting was considered to expensive in ammunition (though many captured Russian weapons and ammo stocks were used) and particuloarly in emotional wear and tear on the personnel involved. Heydrich and Himmler decided to experiment with large-scale gassings instead. Regards, Scott

YYeah, Buchenwald was not an extermination camp from its inception or during its activity. It was a prison. Jewish prisoners and criminals were shipped east to the Aktion Reinhardt camp or to Birkenau by early 1944. No American British or Free French forces ever liberated an extermination camp, only the Russians did. Regards, Scott

Well golly gee! Other than the fact that your information apparently came from public school education and for the most part is wrong, The fact still remains, Obama didn't have an uncle, great or otherwise in WW2. His mother was an only child. Now as far as Buchenwald; seventeen of my 21 year in the military I was assigned to the DOD. Due to my duties, I studied all the wars and the events of them. Some of those studies were in the archives reading journals of officers from the 80th Infantry who went into Buchenwald. They got the credit for liberating sure enough, but it was written by the officers themselves, that the camp was basically deserted of all but a handful of Germans. The rest for the most part had fled ahead of the Russians who had went through the area like a dose of salts through a goose. This was even discussed by our instructors when I attended the War college. If you're going to spout facts, make sure you get them right. Last edited on 04:54 am by Wheels |

The inmates themselves seem to have had control of the interior of the camp having siezed it from the guards who would not voluntarily set foot inside when the Americans arrived. Oddly enough the Soviets took over the camp and used it to house German "war criminals" which was basically anyone who didn't seem "red" enough to the Soviet Army. Facts IS facts, after all. t was Obama's maternal grand uncle, Charley Payne who served in the 89th Infantry Division in Patton's Third Army and liberated one of the Buchenwald sub-camps, Ohrdruf. Madelyn Lee Payne (Obama's maternal grandmother)was NOT an only child. Ohrdruf Concentration Camp was the FIRST camp to be liberated by the Americans and was part of the Buchenwald complex. It was liberated April 4th, 1945 a little more than a week before the 80th Infantry entered Buchenwald. You can check out facts about the Buchenwald system at Nizkor, Wikipedia, The Jewish Virtual Library and many other reputable websites. You can check out facts about the Buchenwald system at Nizkor, Wikipedia, The Jewish Virtual Library and many other reputable websites. I gathered all this info in 1998 when I started moderating a number of web discussion groups about the Holocaust. Like I said, It was the 80th, not the 89th. I tend to believe what was written by the officers who were THERE, not the Jewish library virtual or otherwise. The Jews have a tendency to bend that part of history to suit themselves.
