Wow, what a smart hottie!  I like her ... nice to see such a "real person" in that type of position.

One excerpt ...

The struggle we feel today is not really Middle East against the West, Rania says, but rather it is between extremists and moderates of all religions. "We need to speak up," she says. "The biggest nightmare for the extremists is for us to get along, and that's why we have to get along. We have to communicate more."

A very high ideal, but first and foremost, the people have to want to be educated. Unfortunately, here in this country, a lot of people don't want educated, they just want what the government can supply for them. So, the idea is, let's get pregnant, drop out of school, and live on welfare and food stamps. Or, let's drop out of school, join a gang, sell drugs, and steal what ever else we need. When people start to take responsibilty for their situation,  then you will see some education.

Beautiful, smart and a Queen that seems to have tried to stay in touch with what the "common" folks have to deal with every day.

Education is important but as muddawber said it requires a mind discipline and prepared to be educated. In our society, with a very high absentee rate among fathers, that mindset and discipline doesn't exist.

Ninty-five percent of Muslims may be willing to live and let live but the fanatical, radical five percent can make life terrible for the rest. If you took a survey in Germany in 1930 on whether it would be o.k. to imprison and eventually kill millions of innocent men, women and children in concentration camps that idea would have been widely rejected. But the passivity of the masses allowed a small minority to take power and do just that.

Hi - I saw her on Oprah and I was very happy to see that a big figure as herself was standing up and getting things right.

I am muslim myself and I do not believe the extreemists are right and I am upset that they are "speaking" for the rest of us. Makes me really really mad.

My husband who is arab - just joined the Army to go and help the iraqis and hopefully will fight the insurgents who are the extreemists who are making life difficult in Iraq and around the world.

Hi donyia, very glad to see you posting. We lack Muslims here. :) I am not surprised that you are happy with the type of image she represents. Her aims seem noble and universally good.

her aim is - and I hope that more muslim people like her take a stand. It is very difficult to do unfortunately.

Anyway - it is good to be back posting. I have been extreemly busy, but now that hubby is going to be busy and away for quite awhile - I will have more time online.

Thank you - I think so too.

He has been wanting to do this for the last 3 years and I could not bring myself to encourage him to do it. Thankfully we have a friend of ours that has been doing this for over a year now and we can see what it is all about. Even though it is extreemly risky - the thought that he could be instramental in making changes there with his arabic language - it just seemed the thing to do. Still scared to death, but we as muslims also believe that it does not matter where you are or what you are doing - when it is your day to go - it is your day and there is nothing stopping it. Might as well do something worth something. Not saying that he will perish there, but if he does - it will be good to be doing something that matters helping our country as well as the Iraqi people.

Welcome!

We appreciate the sacrifice you and your husband are making to advance security and freedom in Iraq and by extension in the Middle East in general and here in the U.S.

It is unfortunately that a vocal and violent minority promote themselves as the ones that speak for the majority. Hopefully progress will continue to be made in the region so that your husband and others (our fellow formite Mr. Paseo) can get back home to their families.

I hope that all the anti-Muslim and anti-Islam forumites will read this thread and that article from Queen Rania
and realise that THAT is what Islam means to 95% of the Muslims in the world,
and that Islam and Muslims are NOT what that 5%  think, believe, or act like.

... any more than Christians want Christianity to be identified by the  crimes against humanity that the Crusaders and the Catholic Church did in Constantinople and in the Inqusition.

hear hear on that!

I bet most christians don't know that the KKK is Bible based and you can ONLY be a member IF you are a christian. When I was a christian I had NO clue. I didn't find that out until this year when I was investigating a kkk website for work - I was shocked! They are our homeland terror group. I am afraid that they are going to be out in full force if Obama is elected.

It is very very sad to see people to uneducated and predudiced. I know alot of people from many different countries. They all don't belive or think the way that I do, but they have enhanced my life and I am very greatful for that. I wouldn't have my life any other way.

Noble sentiments but don't hold your breath Sirlamre.

It seems here Islam is a dirty word only used to describe the "threat" to the US.

The terrorists who caused 9/11 were muslims therefore all muslims are considered a threat.

Having been born and raised in the south, I know about the clan. Yes, they were supossedly Christian's, but they weren't. I despise them, and everyone who is affiliated with the clan. To me, they are as much cowards as the muslim terrorist. I had several run ins with the clan in my earlier days, mainly because I let it be known how I felt about them. The sad truth is, they are not all uneducated lower class people. Some of them are highly educated, and quite wealthy. When people think of the KKK, they think about a bunch of beer drinking rednecks in white sheets with a pillow case over their heads. But, this is not always the case. The predjudice part is right,
