WASHINGTON - Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards on Friday admitted to an extramarital affair while his wife was battling cancer. He denied fathering the woman's daughter. Edwards told ABC News that he lied repeatedly about the affair with 42-year-old Rielle Hunter but said that he didn't love her.

Actually, he'll probably switch to the GOP now, and end up heading some Senate or House  committee
on family morals.

It seems to be the latest trend in the GOP
 -- get involved in supporting or serving on some moral and ethical committee or platform-

--when the  very GOP politician is himself  has a history past and present of being a violator of the very moral or ethical platform that he oh-so-publicly decries and rails against while standing alongside fellow "violators" from the Religious Right.

Apparently not, there are reports that McCain had extramarital affairs,
too... albeit long ago and maybe he can get by with it... the actual
affair itself isn't quite as bothersome to me as the lying about it...

And to add to the problem, he up and says this:

TELLING people that you're egotistical, narcisstic, and believe you can do whatever you want?

He's =done= now...

That may be a true statement in an honesty sense--- something he should have said to his wife.

but it's a +politically deadly+ thing to have said in a medium where it is a permanent part of public record.

You can bet that whatever he runs for next, that statement is going to be used in an ad by his opponent.
Guaranteed.

Truth or not, he never should have said that in a place where it would be recorded permanently.

I don't condone what Edwards has done because he's married, and this is very poor and irresponsible behaviour.  However, I've come to the conclusion that America is one of the most fu--ed up countries in the world.

In America we idolize violence and crude behavior.  Our media (no matter what the outlet) floods our senses with overly sexualized images and when a man actually acts like a man and uses the chemicals and tools of his physicality, we demonize him.

And why is this important when GW Bush has murdered hundreds of thousands of innocent people for next to nothing? 

A country which broadcasts the likes of Nancy Grace (notice her made up name is Grace?), or Greta (peanut brittle face) Van Susterin, or Sean Adolph Hannity, or self absorbed liar Michael Savage,  and wants you to search under the bed for the latest abducted child, or the latest soldier who decapitated his soldier girlfriend, or lies to you on an hourly basis,  is really mentally disturbed.

Is our country so full of liars, cheaters, and just plain old mean ignorant people, that the only way we can appease our guilt is to smear the likes of Sen. Edwards for having an affair?  I wonder how many of the people talking about this critically, have done just about the same thing?
