I couldn't resist posting this here. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I was talking to a friend of mine's little girl, and she said she wanted to be President some day. Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there, so I asked her, "If you were President what would be the first thing you would do?" She replied, "I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people." "Wow - what a worthy goal!" I told her. "You don't have to wait until you're President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow, pull weeds, and sweep my yard, and I'll pay you $50. Then, I'll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless hang out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward food or a new house." She thought that over for a few moments because she's only 6 years old. And while her Mom glared at me, the young child looked me straight in the eye and asked, "Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50?" And I said, "Welcome to the Republican Party." Her folks still aren't talking to me.

The guy who was doing the hourly work would have to FIGHT for a raise, FIGHT to not have to pay huge deductibles, read his insurance CAREFULLY, looking for the "corporate cost savings" built into the fine print as "we only cover 20% on things you regularly do" Both Parties allow corporations to do this though. That's what irks me -- watching the "regular worker" get screwed. Starting three years ago, my wife's hospital insurance plan is FOUR THOUSAND dollar deductible. The hospital gives her $3000 on a 'bennie card'. She has to PAY the remaining $1000 herself out of salary -- Plus, it only pays 80/20 on the more rare things -- regular checkups, dental cleanings, etc -- are 50/50. Oh, and the best part? The "old plan" with a $500 deductible, no salary deduction at ALL, and better percentages of covered. The "senior staff" were supposed to be migrated off that standard - supposedly within 6 months of the staff being migrated. It's been three years and a lot of them STILL are not on the "better" plan that most staff are on. Oh, and the bennie? In return for this "benefit" she gets AUDITED about every other month, and has to spend hours digging up receipts and paperwork and claim forms, and FAXING all that crap to the company who gives the bennie card. Know who "helped" get "in" the insurance company that the hospital uses? Charles Taylor, the much vaunted GOP ex-Rep here. HE held meetings and seminars and crap and SOLD the management of the big companies here on that "bennie card" crap to the local large enterprises. Bastard.
